Today's Load-bearing Tomato addresses the age old question:

"why don't the devs just [SOCIAL MEDIA OPINION]"

It turns out, "a lot of reasons", but if you never have to test your ideas, you never have to discover why they're not any good.

Why chasing twitter's approval doesn't work

John Roberts' hand in the destruction of the American experiment cannot be overstated. Alongside McConnell and Trump, villains of a level difficult to encompass with words.
I'm still SHOCKED by the obscene rise in billionaire election spending since Citizens United in the NYT piece, despite already knowing that election corruption w/ $ was profound. (Recall that BCRA fought dangerous campaign $ in *2002*)

The article data didn't have a graph, so I made one to show it.

We are being ruled by stark raving lunatics
I called up one of the White House's "special government employees" involved in the Fulton County FBI raid.

I ended up on the phone for almost two hours hearing about the "deep state" "cabal," "Satanists," poison soda, and the "pure evil" of "gay pride." talkingpointsmemo.com/news/meet-th...

can't say which i find more appalling, remnick handing him a "fair enough" on the left and right being equally antisemitic or saying there was "no immigration policy" under dems. either way, super embarrassing for remnick to get steamrolled this hard by the right's pre-eminent midwit

VA Gov. Spanberger (moderate, was in CIA) and NYC Mayor Mamdani (left, is in DSA) both taking steps to block local law enforcement from helping ICE as it violently violates people's rights is a good example of how the relevant divide in the Dem coalition isn't center-left, it's fight-don't fight.

Mamdani is just phenomenal
Mamdani: "I speak of Renee Good, whose final words to the man who murdered her were, 'I'm not mad at you.' I speak of Alex Pretti who died as he lived, caring for the stranger. ICE shot him bc he did something they could never fathom ... let us offer a new path: one of defiance through compassion."

If you want to help in the short term, you can Venmo/PayPal me (@kfoleyfl). We're going to the store later today to get them groceries for the next few weeks. I'm also working on figuring out what else they need. Things like gas, rent, and utilities. Whatever they need, we're not leaving them alone.
We found out that one of my percussion students had his dad taken by ICE two weeks ago and is being held in Georgia. I'm trying to pool together resources to help get the family some groceries and help with bills. Just need to figure out the best way to do that.

Leftists have this thing that purity outweighs practicality and that’s dumb. But liberals have this thing that we can’t demand better and just have to accept the suck. That’s stupid too.

What a talent, and what a message
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Jeffrey Bezos is destroying the Washington Post for the same reason Musk destroyed Twitter and Ellison is destroying CBS—oligarchs oppose the free press when if it threatens their wealth and power.

They don’t want normal people to see what is happening in America.
