I think this strengthens the case for Stancilism.
Immediate post pandemic economy was *weird* in a way that made it hard to compare it to similar years.
But we've got low unemployment and low inflation now. Very hard to make the case that now is worse than the Volcker shock.

UMich consumer sentiment (current conditions) at 50.4 is a new all-time low -- going back to data from the 1970s.

I'm struck by the casual cruelty present in this image; the simple joy of having a snow day as a kid turned into a chemical hazard, one that younger kids are more likely to miss and be harmed by.

I live in an area with one of the highest densities of fed jobs outside of the beltway and the grocery store was dire this morning. The smallest versions of all essentials were completely cleaned out, people stocking back up on things they ran out of all at once
