As we in Minneapolis struggle with this unlawful, invading force… I ask all of you consider the parallels to your local law enforcement and the Black community often describes their interactions.
I am not exaggerating when I say ICE functions as a terrorist organization in the Twin Cities. The goal seems to be to harass and frighten people (the ones who are lucky enough to not be abducted, at least) and it's deeply unsettling when you learn they're in your neighborhood.

ICE OUT block party was a huge success. Over 40 neighbors came through in negative double digit temps, bringing chili, hot cocoa, smores, and wood for the fire.

Taking public space, building trust among neighbors, having fun while doing it...this is how we win

Not the most important thing but a concerning number of people seem to be unaware that the brand name on a stadium is not the owner of the stadium

Yess! UMN just closed campus tomorrow 1/23 for "extreme cold weather." This effectively grants the Graduate Labor Union's demand to shut down for the Day of Action umnglu.org/jan23/

I have been actively involved in protest movements for 24 years. I have never seen anything approaching this scale. Minneapolis is not accepting what's happening here. ICE fucking murdered a woman for participating in this, and all that did is bring out more people, from more walks of life.

Want to do something for Friday's general strike but don't want to be stuck downtown for the big march in the -10F temps? Many people are saying a great option would be to throw an ICE OUT block party for your neighbors

by contrast, minnesotans have a clear strategic goal in mind: the removal of ICE and CBP from their streets. and their discipline reflects that clarity of purpose.

National media: Please stop describing what’s happening in Minneapolis as “protests.” There has been a modest, sustained protest outside the Whipple federal building, about 10 miles from downtown, but... 1/3

Hey. If you’re outside MN and wanting to help, can I suggest throwing some coin to the Local 17 hardship fund?
UNITE HERE Local 17 represents more than 6,000 workers. The majority of our membership is women, immigrants and people of color.

Minnesota is under attack by Federal ICE Agents indiscriminately targeting people of color.

WE NEED YOUR HELP — Please support this hardship fund.

I don’t think people quite understand that the occupation by ICE in the Twin Cities has more or less erased non-white people from public life. They cannot safely exist in any space accessible to the public and moving between private places leaves folks vulnerable to kidnapping by armed masked goons.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

Unanimous support at City Council today demanding Governor Walz declare an eviction moratorium. People around the country are looking to Minnesota right now, to see what we will do in the face of this federal terror, to support our neighbors and keep each other safe.

After ICE agents shot people in Minneapolis tonight, a crowd faced them down and eventually chased them away, despite federal mercenaries and police shooting a tremendous amount of tear gas.

ICE agents abandoned vehicles in the area, containing IDs, paperwork, license plates, and operational plans.
