Going to attempt an updated/better explanation of the Classic Fredo Concept: The Gunstar Heroes Zone™.

A game belongs in The Gunstar Heroes Zone™ when it gains an outsize fandom and/or reputation relative to the impact the game had when it originally game out.

I like to think that deep down inside he knew this would happen

BREAKING NEWS: I deeply regret to inform you all that Arnold Phillip Shortman.... has died

We will update this developing story as we learn more details.
Arnold from the nickelodeon show hey Arnold, he's a white blond kid with a football shaped head and he's wearing a really tiny baseball cap

They're too small, because of wokeness,

Sweet, I have the guile figure from this line, time to create a horrific monstrosity

the steam reviews echo the same sentiment, a lot of people are like "eh this is ok but pretty slow" and then you have this small sliver of players that are just absolute roadcraft heads that get completely obsessed and I've become one of those players lmao
fredo.bsky.social
As for roadcraft, not sure if you've seen my Fredo's Game-Os on it but I go into more detail on it there. It's definitely not for everyone and I can see a majority of players getting bored with the pacing but if it clicks with you it REALLY clicks bsky.app/profile/fred...

Fredo's Game-os: Roadcraft

This is quite an interesting one! For a few years now, Saber Interactive has been doing these technical vehicle sim type games (Mud runners, snow runners, and expeditions) which are pretty complicated but a little more accessible than stuff like truck simulator
Roadcraft key art featuring a dozer pushing a pile of dirt with some cranes and other construction vehicles in the background

Oh yeah I am familiar with this style of game - I also have been enjoying deep rock galactic survivors as well as soulstone survivors which released earlier this year

This post truth era is really fascinating because people will not only just say anything but they'll say stuff that's very obviously and famously the opposite of the truth everyone understand and do it in this way where it's like, not even controversial
fredo.bsky.social
ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put
fredo.bsky.social
look I can name like 3 musicians that aren't video game soundtrack composers and even I know that Johnny Cash's whole thing is that he's famously a cool guy, maybe to the point of it being detrimental to his reputation as an artist
fredo.bsky.social
I did not get super into Blue Prince myself but I can totally see why people liked it so much and why it got the buzz that it had. I think it will definitely be a contender in this space
fredo.bsky.social
That first season drops all at once and you're either a hit out the gate or you're fuckin cancelled, with an increasingly rare and narrow space in between
fredo.bsky.social
This is an interesting point, there are a lot of shows from that era that got retooled a lot over that first season and they often have a first season that's pretty radically different from the rest of the show. These days shows just don't really get a chance to do that
fredo.bsky.social
Plus there's a few things that came out earlier in the year like Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction. and *whispering quietly under breath* there's also roadcraft

but yeah I'll be curious to see how these lists go at the end of the year
fredo.bsky.social
It might still end up being "the big one" this year but now I think it faces pretty stiff competition from the likes of Death Stranding 2, Silent hill f, Donkey Kong, Hades 2, maybe Silksong (which I think is the most competitive in terms of the organic buzz behind it), Ghost of Yotei, etc
fredo.bsky.social
Earlier this year I was thinking it might be another situation like baldur's gate in 2023 where Clair Obscur just kind of runs away with it and handily wins the majority of goty awards from places that do that - but it's shaping up to be a far more competitive year than I had initially anticipated
fredo.bsky.social
of course fuckin roBUTTnik would say this
fredo.bsky.social
SONIC'S THE NAME, SPEED'S THE GAME!!! GOTTA GO!!! FAST!!!!! *attempts to run but immediately trips and falls on the first step, slams into ground face first, is instantly KO'ed, pool of blood starts to form*
fredo.bsky.social
tempted to predict even a single good thing ever happening but it really goes against my prophet fredo brand (and threatens my 100% future prediction accuracy rate)
