So National is considering repealing the Regulatory Standards Bill after providing the majority votes to pass it? It's good they are considering it, but this is also unhinged. Maybe they should just pass legislation and repeal it next day for maximum efficiency. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/...
'It's not impossible': Willis says National may join other parties to repeal Regulatory Standards Act
The National deputy leader said her party may also campaign to get rid of the law.

The government cannot bear to have anything impact the profits of our dairy industry (or our virtually non-existent coal/gold mining industry. They are also angry that some communities chose to keep Māori seats.
Let us be real. The "problem" in local government that National/ACT/NZ First want to fix, is there are too many 'green' politicians in regional councils who care about the environment and are taking (moderate) actions to reduce the damage caused by big polluters. In particular, dairy, our sacred cow

It's easy to lose sight of just how bad the government's weakening of methane emissions targets is - as @christinahood.bsky.social points out, "The extra warming caused by weakening the methane target...is roughly equivalent to tripling all of [NZ's] other emissions out to 2050"

This graph from Robert McLachlan - perfect demonstration of how government intentions matter. Because it is clear this government plans to take no action on climate change, car importers have made no progress towards clean car standards. Now the government is cancelling them

Great list by @marcdaalder.bsky.social - these are just the harmful climate decisions the government has made in the last 6 weeks. If you zoom out to their whole term in government so far, the situation looks even worse.

Incredible takedown by @marcdaalder.bsky.social of the Government's climate strategy - Let it burn. By and large, their policy platform appears to involve actively increasing emissions (while saying they don't want them to rise). newsroom.co.nz/2025/11/07/g...
Govt's climate strategy: Let it burn
Comment: The Government has relentlessly pursued policies that boost climate pollution – even if they cost more or jeopardise NZ's reputation, Marc Daalder writes

The debate around capital gains tax is interesting in NZ. 66% of NZers own their home - but surprisingly few own 2 properties. It's hard to get exact figures - maybe 20%? Of those who own investment properties, most own only 1 - a very small group own 20+ properties. figure.nz/chart/ydWBSI...

The Western Australian government is allowing 2% of Western Australia to be fracked… as if that’s not much.

But

2% of Western Australia’s area is approximately 50,598 square kilometres.

That’s about the same size as Costa Rica or Slovakia.

Imagine ALL of Slovakia covered in toxic gas wells.
