I think the auditory circuits are a good example of how complicated the issue is. Yes, they develop from DVR in birds but also the ascending auditory circuit, torus-thal-pall is highly conserved.

The global whaling industry experienced a boom c. 1840-1950 as technology allowed whalers to hunt the Southern Ocean around Antarctica.

Under standard models, we would have expected krill populations to have *exploded*.

Instead, they DROPPED exponentially.

Let's talk about the KRILL PARADOX.
Change in distribution and abundance of southern right whales. (A) Shows historical and contemporary wintering distributions (Figure 1 from Carroll et al., 2018), and (B) shows decline in abundance and subsequent recovery (solid line is the mean, dashed line shows upper and lower 95% CI). Modified Figure 1 from Jackson et al. (2008). Contemporary sightings are divided into regions where large aggregations are seen during winter: Argentina (ARG), Brazil (BZL), South Africa (SAF), southwest Australia (SWA), south central Australia (SCA), and New Zealand sub-Antarctic (NZSA) and regions where sightings are typically of small numbers of individuals per year. The large aggregations are IWC management units and correspond to historical whaling grounds, although another 5 whaling grounds show little sign of recovery. Summer feeding areas are poorly described and so not shown.

Jane Goodall was also the first to bring attention to wild tool-using vultures, which she spotted randomly one day while out driving. These birds use stones to break into ostrich eggs.

Be observant like Jane and who knows what you’ll see! 🧪🥚
A two page spread of national geographic magazine with a story by Jane Goodall and her husband reporting on egg-breaking, tool-using Egyptian vultures.

My answer is no we won’t. Unless there is significant investment in post secondary and industry sees Canada as a site of innovation, there are not enough jobs to recruit these people. In fact all signs point to less investment in post secondary. 🇨🇦

H-1B visa changes may give Canada an opportunity. Will it seize it?
The US visa shake-up could push talent north — but experts caution that Canada’s immigration system has its own challenges.

The money class are parodies of themselves. There is no problem they think won't magically be solved by tax cuts and deregulation.

Psychologically, there's no difference between "tax cuts solve everything" fetishists and your weird aunt who's constantly talking about how fairies cured her gout.

BOOM: The swainsons hawk came back a 2nd time and I nailed the shot as close as I could with a 100-400mm f/5.6 - next time if I'm packing(aka renting) a 300 f2.8 ill get the shot of a lifetime. Or if someone near Sacramento wants to lend me one! =) #birds
