If you are in Dublin, please support this.

If not, you can email or call your TD (and Minister Seán Canney TD is the Galway TD with responsibility for Road Safety) and ask them to attend the Love30 presentation on Thursday.

A reminder that this rally is happening this coming Thursday 2nd Oct.

Please support it if you can by joining us on the day or contact your local TDs & ask them to attend the Love 30 presentation in the AV room.

This effects rural Ireland as much as it does our larger towns and cities.

Delighted to see this in this weeks updated primary curriculum docs.

A lot of work from the @irishcyclingcmpn.bsky.social team putting together a strong submission emphasising the importance of cycling to mobility, independence and more.

This is an INSANE decision by the E.U.

“By signing up to mutual recognition of vehicle standards with the U.S., the E.U. has waved the white flag on road safety. This is not a technical detail – it is a political choice that puts trade convenience ahead of saving lives.”

This will kill people.

Walk anywhere in Amsterdam and you’ll sense a calm coherence: bricks, curbs, fixtures, benches, bollards and drains that look related. This isn’t accidental. It’s a product of the Puccini Method, the city’s standards—part design language, part technical playbook—for shaping every street and square.🧵
People of all ages and abilities walk, cycle, sit, and socialise along the residential streets of Amsterdam, which are lined with buildings, trees, flowers and plantings, benches, and terraces. The sustainable mobility revolution needs storytellers to show there is more than one way to move. When the narrative is missing, misinformation takes hold, fueling claims like cycling kills local businesses or that traffic-calming is anti-car.

SUVs (not just oversized) endanger vulnerable road users.
Electric or fossil-fuel, they harm health and the environment.
They waste space and symbolise failed transport policy.

Our streets should be full of children and adults cycling, not clogged with SUVs.

SUVs don’t belong in our cities!
Opinion: Supersized SUVs are more dangerous to pedestrians. Is it time for an extra levy on new ones?
The Debate: Is a proposed weight tax on heavier cars per kilogramme really about safety – or more about punishing the smug?

#Galway is a nightmare I regularly have to put my life in the hands of drivers as I try to walk across roundabouts that have no pedestrian crossings. Zero ambition for public active transport.

Spot on letter to the editor!

Time for politicians to bite the bullet. Another ring road is an outdated non-solution that will increase emissions and car dependence.

Let’s fast-track a light rail network for Galway, paired with world-class active transport infrastructure.

Now that’s a solution!

The bike is not a perfect replacement for the car, as it lacks the required range. Likewise, the train lacks the door-to-door convenience. But combine these two modes into a single system, and a seamless mobility option is unlocked—capable of reducing congestion by replacing thousands of car trips.🧵

What a pity, especially since we hear that Cork has bypasses and big interchanges which we are told are needed to provide for safe cycling.

How about Ringaskiddy itself?

- "A compromise solution might be to build the greenway to the side of the wider sections and, for now, use the centre of the narrower sections with the clear condition that the use of the land be given back to Irish Rail when/if the railway is ready to be opened."

To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars.

Even if those cars are electric.

And then there’s all the parking.

OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc.

Choices.

Simple.
Graphic showing a 9 m wide track for metros can move as many people as a 175 m road for cars.

Bienvenue 🇫🇷🇮🇪

Would love to hear their experiences. We often hear Irish people and families so excited about how safe it is to cycle along the French Atlantic coast. Maybe we underestimate how good things are this side of the pond?
