It had been several days since a French political crisis, so thank god the Socialists have come back with threats to blow up the government next week

The home of the O'Donovan family is being used as a polling station in Coolmoyne, Co Tipperary. Around 250 people are eligible to vote at the house and after they cast their ballot, they will be treated to a cup of tea, a slice of apple or rhubarb tart, or a scone | More: rte.ie/b/1540324
*Every* UK Government with a majority in Parliament holds untrammelled power. Or try asking the question, "What is it that Crown in Parliament can NOT do?"

As for the people of the UK: If they weren't feckless, they'd have won themselves real democracy already. 🤷🏻‍♂️
You don't hold untrammelled power on 33% of the vote in a real democracy, Ben. 😉
I think Other Ben is right, else you end up with something like the Spanish Constitution of 1814, which is great while the Liberals hold the balance of power - and gets thrown in the bin the moment the Reactionaries are back in charge.

You need very wide agreement on the Basic Law that binds all.
For a real democracy (which the UK very much is not), a Constitution is necessary but not sufficient.

So less snark about Constitutions, please, since the root cause here is an ignorant and feckless population, and a complacent but talentless elite that has zero use for real democracy.

There were earlier versions to this poem as it appeared in 'An Arbitrary Light Bulb', including one for a performance with Satnam Galsian which was close to this.

My "designed to annoy everyone" take is that the British right should be ashamed of and incensed by the murder and lack of justice for British citizens.
Most people in NI are really not surprised by the Soldier F outcome - but this was no show trial or witch hunt. The judge excoriated the soldiers' conduct, but because of a passing of time caused by extreme state failings, could not convict. That is the scandal. These headlines are grotesque:

That scene of the Welsh BBC correspondent being the only person interviewing Caerphilly's new Plaid AM while the rest of the media interviewed Reform's loser in the background was far too on the nose.

In THE TABLES TURNED (1911), a band of prankster cowpokes kidnap actress Edith Storey as a practical joke but quickly find themselves in a pickle when she steals a pistol and forces them to bunny hop for her amusement, as one does.

As we await a verdict in the trial of Soldier F, another reminder that in 2010 the Bloody Sunday inquiry found

- the killings were unjustified
- none of the 14 dead (7 of whom were children) had guns
- no warnings were given
- no soldiers were under threat
- the troops were the first to open fire

23 October 1943 | A transport of 1,035 Jews deported from Rome arrived at Auschwitz. After the selection 149 men & 47 women were registered in the camp. The remaining 839 people were murdered in gas chambers.

Mario, Mara Cesira & Sandro Sonnino among them.

Bad day for the rule of law. The state can murder you in front of witness, cameras, frustrate justice for years, oversee destroying evidence and then put it 53 year later before a jury less trial to give themselves the green light about it all. And I have to pay my taxes to fund it

Oigan, que hay más de un 70% de energías no síncronas en el sistema ibérico.
Miren ustedes si se les ha ido la luz o algo, que dicen en la prensa que esto no puede ser.
