Bluesky suspended Sarah Kendzior today for no reason whatsoever. She just shared excerpts of her articles, which were as always incisive and not offensive at all. Hey @pfrazee.com this is super not OK. I know her- we've interacted a fair bit via chats and her work is essential.

I just shared Daniel's newsletter. Now read this thread to see what's really going on behind the theater on the end of the shutdown.
Some thoughts on the CR/minibus.

1 The Dems negotiating with Rs were not freelancing. They coordinated with Sen Schumer. A few were ready to give in on day one, others worked to maximize appropriations wins.

Those voting for the 'deal' are the ones furthest away from electoral consequences.

A great thread on a fascinating tragic story, for today on the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
#OTD in Weather History, 48 years ago, on November 10, 1975, the ore freighter SS EDMUND FITZGERALD was lost with all hands in a severe storm on Lake Superior.

She is perhaps the best known shipwreck on the Great Lakes, and today we remember her loss. 1/

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

"Rich liberals need to get together, see all this for the democracy-ending crisis that it is, and pool tens of millions of dollars into an organization that will buy existing media outlets (traditional and social) and start new ones." newrepublic.com/article/2025...
The Washington Post Has Become Right-Wing Even Faster Than I Thought
It’s not going to happen. It’s happening: The mainstream media is becoming right-wing. What are wealthy liberals going to do about it?

I really hate the way @npr.org is framing this series. Seems that all media outlets write this same sad story about how if we don't have more babies, the economy is over. Is this a mandate from some corporate underwriter? Fewer babies is good. We consume too much as it is www.npr.org/2025/10/27/n...
People are having fewer kids. Their choice is transforming the world's economy
Family size around the world is dropping. That choice by couples is triggering a population shift that's sending shock waves through economies.

This is a breathtaking abuse of the law and power by the President of the United States.

America is on the brink of martial law.

Do not be silent.
This evening, President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States. No officials from the federal government called me directly to discuss or coordinate.

Update: within hours of this post, the Daily Memphian printed Dan Conaway's article. They claimed he quit the newspaper (which he helped to found!) after they asked for "edits." Gimme a break. I spoke to Dan, and he's been cheered by your support. He's considering starting his own newsletter/blog.
Memphis writer Dan Conaway, who helped found the @dailymemphian.bsky.social & comes from a century of local journalism, has just been censored by his own publication.

Here’s the column they wouldn't run.

People focus on the wrong things! Comparing the fact actors get plastic surgery is stupid. AI threatens everyone in the industry. AI Tilly doesn't need: a manager, agent, acting/dialogue coach, assistant, costumer, hair & makeup, time off, sleep, food, an opinion abt what she has to do or wear.

This is a fight over your ability to go to a pharmacy and afford your insulin.

We have the chance to protect the health care of millions of Americans. We need to take it.

I recall an anonymous quote from an elected Democrat asking with exasperation: do people expect us to put our bodies on the line?

@katmabu.bsky.social did it. She gets it. All the respect.
ICE continues to assault us.

We are peacefully protesting. They are kidnapping and hurting us.

Ok, hear me out...how about Team Journalism? When interviewing a politician who spouts bullshit, experts in the production booth can refute the bullshit (like saying, that isn't actually against the law) and can send follow up questions through the anchor's earpiece. Why is that not a thing?

Is there any point in having today’s stage if everyone agrees that Jonas won the GC yesterday? I know it is the norm to have an easy last day for these grand tour races if the GC is pretty clear on the 20th day but doesn’t make for much excitement for fans to watch. #LaVuelta25

This may be the weirdest amazing science story I've ever read.
TIL that for some people with irreparably damaged corneas, you can pull one of their teeth, drill a hole in it, install an artificial lens, sew it into their cheek (so tissue attaches), then pull it out and stick it in their damaged eye, and ... it works fine!?! www.nbcboston.com/news/health/...
Man, 34, is no longer blind after tooth is implanted in eye in 'crazy' surgery
Tooth-in-eye surgery sounds like science fiction, but it can help people with severely damaged corneas see again. A patient and his doctors describe what it's like.
