Finding out that the Caribbean restaurant that moved out of your neighbourhood has moved *back* = good end to the day.

I hate the gatekeeping around running. Everyone who runs is a runner. What is running? Well if you moved faster than you would walk - congratulations, you ran.

(Unless you were deliberately doing the competitive walking thing, in which case I believe you that you did not.)
It is so weird to finish a workout including runs and NOT feel completely wiped!

I’m not calling this a run because running people can be gatekeepy but I definitely did run!

Kate's thread is a very very very good thread.
I'm going to do a little thread on how the money from books works for traditionally published authors because people have questions, and this is always useful info to share IMO. First, a big disclaimer that every contract is different, and there are a million factors that can change things. 1/

@premeemohamed.com I told you 'stuff them in a portal to 1672' was not a good solution to your explosive growth of freakish worms problem
These #worms fell down from the sky, maybe, in 1672 Europe, and lived for another couple of days. However fantastic the #earlymodern story of the falling "Würmer" is, I do like the alien-freakish styled insects a lot. Zoom in and choose your favorite:

It also means it needs to be prosecuted for counselling people to commit suicide.
Okay, Jesus, you know what, let’s go with it.

ChatGPT is conscious — and conscious like a person, not like dogs or whales — which means it’s entitled to a salary and legal representation to recover damages from the tech bros exploiting it.

Philosophical questions shouldn’t be pure aesthetics.

If at any point I am in a room and someone asks a fucking chatbot what we should talk about next, I'm flinging myself out the window

I don't care what floor we're on

Still a better situation
This is so soulless, I can't stand it. We have BRAINS. We can USE THEM.

I see the book piracy discourse is going around again and all I can say is I know more than one writer producing acclaimed work that is considering jacking it in or reducing the amount they write because they don't make to justify it vs a job job.

It's not only piracy, but piracy is costing us art.

Well fuck. This is of course exactly what people said would happen, and here it is.

Along with attacking the trans community, weirdos who want to control women have been handed their best weapon ever.

www.thecanary.co/opinion/2025...
Leaked trans code is a victory for women everywhere, provided they don't look a bit too mannish
The EHRC trans code is a disaster. So well done, especially to the anti-trans left who think aligning with Trump is the right thing to do.

Listen I am not the guy who makes everyone bust up laughing at a party either (honestly, I'm not even the guy *at the party* 99% of the time) but I have never been filled with the gnawing desperation to *be that guy* that Elon so clearly has.

I do like that in THE TERMINATOR, the future of humanity hinges, in a way, on storytelling--Kyle Reese's unfailing faith in, and love for, a woman from the past that he's never met, having been told stories of her heroism by her son. Sarah Connor sees that faith, and loves him for it.
Reading about AI being subverted by adversarial poetry and Russian drones' navigation systems jammed by Ukranian folk anthems, which suggests the opening future 'human rebels' scenes of Terminator may now have to be revised.

The decision to bung ads into the middle of streaming stuff makes sense from like Disney's POV because $$$ but I wonder if the companies advertising consider how much people like me now associate their product with 'intensely annoying' and will therefore never ever buy it.

They probably did a study

Drop 'em here, please.
