They’re just gonna do a little lite slavery.
In addition, the new rule allows farm employers to charge H-2A workers for their housing, which was not allowed before. "It's a way for employers to continue to house workers and also charge them, and bring down effective wages," said Marcos Lopez of the Labor and Community Center at the University of California, Davis.

asking people for permission to take their wallets would 'kill' the mugging industry, too

Speaking as a person with a broad vocabulary of fun profanities of many eras, people like Weiss and Hegseth do Midwestern Theater Department cursing. Ever want to hear someone drop an F-bomb like they’re afraid it will get on their shirt? Go watch a bunch of 20-year-olds do a self-produced one-act.

Californians, let’s call (916) 445-2841 to tell Newsom’s office to sign the following pro LGBTQ+ rights bills before the deadline:

AB 82/SB 497
AB 1084/SB 59
SB 418
AB 554
AB 728
AB 678
SB 590
SB 450

He hasn't signed the other bills yet, but he still has days to do so
This headline is misleading for not mentioning that.

The gender education veto is bad, but far from the most important trans rights bill on his desk.

There's still time to contact Newsom for the rest!

I’d sooner vote for Tommy Newsom. Better dresser, too.

Fully aware he has a great meme team. Nevertheless: Fuck this guy.

I have to assume that’s just an overeducated“don’t give me any of your lip.”

Rogue Male is much funnier if you read it as a sequel to Three Men in a Boat.

Trying to figure out how to market a show made of a bunch of the things I *do* remember that are cluttering my brain. Instead of a show made of things I can’t remember like, say, the actual lines from the show I’m doing now.

This was a great thread to read this morning before heading to the airport:

Some things I've learned in my first few weeks:

1) There is a grey market candy swapping racket between janitors, TSA agents, CSRs, and everyone else who has to stand someplace all day at the airport.

Hi-chews, sour candies, and gummy anything are in highest demand.

The thing about this is, is this is how born-rich people *already* do it - whether it's making art, or starting a business, or whatever they successfully do. They already know it works.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

A thing I enjoy about #TheBigStreet is how it captures the incredibly dark parts of Runyon as well as the linguistic fun everyone hooks into. I don’t if any other adaptation but Lady for a Day really manages that. #TCMParty

Part 2—the better, agreed—also has the scene (one with Strasberg) where Pacino, per Abigail, “started shouting and has never stopped.”
gjmaupin.bsky.social
At best watch it alone one day with no one staring at you to gauge your reaction. (That’s not what happened to Abigail; just…we’ve all been there.)
