This is perhaps the most seen I've felt with regard to erotic TTRPGs in a while. It is such a frustrating but understandable sentiment, though it becomes all the more frustrating when it's the -dominant- sentiment. This is also true for Hawkmoth, and has been true for my own work to an extent.
I’ve been playing RPGs for an audience in some way or another since 2018, and the graveyard of Lines & Veils documents haunting my archive shows a large majority of games had “sexual content” red-lined before we had a recording date on schedule. So, although I’ve done the same outreach I have in the past, I wasn’t surprised to find an understandable lack of interest. Even some support for this game has been accompanied by asterisks. “This sounds really interesting! To be VERY clear, I would not play this. But it sounds cool!” is not an uncommon phrasing. I even found myself speaking about the game in similar ways initially, almost apologetically, to avoid negative reactions. Instead of “You should play this!”, it’s “you should play this, if you’re comfortable with that of course”. Which simply isn’t something we say when recommending your average hack-n-slash RPG. Still, the sentiment, “I support that this thing exists but I will not play it” is something I have been trying to accept as a valid form of support.

my friend just suckerpunched me with one of the most fucked rpg ideas I've ever heard. it's about personhood, it's about autonomy, it's about willing and unwilling change and what the difference is if the result is the same. it's all I'm gonna be thinking about until we find a way to play it.
