I teach American university students doing their semester/year abroad. It's never been more on my mind that their time with us is probably their first edu experience without any gun safety concerns. I have no idea if my previous students from Brown are safe rn. I'm sick with worry.

Very telling that the Guardian Weekly article showing teenagers' reactions to Australia's social media ban have a bunch of healthy kids saying "Annoying but no biggie, I can wait two years" and one very disabled one saying "welp there goes my entire world."

I've cancelled my licence fee direct debit - the law requires I pay it and I expect eventually I shall. But I'll make it as expensive as I can for them to collect. Let me contribute as little as possible to what it costs the BBC to spread its transphobic poison.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.

Sad to read the news about Stanley Baxter. He thought no one would love him if they knew he was gay. When he came out in his 90s he discovered a new generation loved him just as much. Here’s a wee piece I wrote for the @alloatiser Rest in peace Stanley. #ParliamoGlasgow #LGBT
