Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.

It's such a stupid line. I was accused of being a Soros paid actor many times.

Dehumanising is a classic tactic to stop moral epiphany. Convince people they haven't gone off the deep end and they're heroes fighting a sinister conspiracy and they won't pull punches.

What I don't get, right, is that, as someone who worked in politics for more years than I care to remember, I never saw an advert for the job of "professional protestor", nor was I ever offered use of any protestors, nor did I ever get my hands on any "Soros money". Odd.

The reason the far right, authoritarians and tyrants everywhere are obsessed with attacking funding of opponents and even of fictional organisations is that they cannot conceive of any person acting out of concern and conviction rather than for self-gain through money, power or status.
