Who wants some random Siberia facts? ☃️ I was born and raised there (left in 2003, never returned), and I've always found it funny how many misconceptions folks have about it. This will be a bit of an ongoing thread...

Feral Artist Nomad update. 🙃 The fine folks of West Reading, PA enjoyed my sci-fibshort film as well as my radical anti-AI stance. Unsure if I'll win the audience prize tomorrow, but it'll be funny, eh. Many new friendos.

I've inspired the local feral teenagers to make modern-day silent films. 😎

One of the things I love is that the game that started with guys painting shoeboxes into tanks has just rolled with it and developed Lore about the shape of the Leman Russ or the Astartes bolt gun because of the lack of fine detailing on the early models. GW just owns it.

Day 1 of a fancy film festival. :) At the 2nd of the 3 parties, film school students intently listened as I explained how good writing + ideas + editing can make even a $0 budget film stand out.

Had a bit of an imposter syndrome moment: they'd spent 💰 on tuition... OTOH, I've had ~10 screenings. 🙃

Good news: my film festival includes 2 free nights at the local Marriott. 😎

Bad news: the hotel discriminates against cool people*

* the AC doesn't go above 79 degrees. 🙃

Just arrived in West Reading, PA. Not sure why it's separate from Reading, PA - I suspect there had been a terrible and gruesome localized civil war. 🥲

Yup... Decades ago, a small team of scientists went to the far north to exhume the mass grave from the 1918 pandemic - all to get their hands on a preserved sample of the virus. In their book later on, they admitted they hadn't taken any precautions. 🤡

Same vibes.

Thanks, eh. :) (Also, the tiny budget was $15.)

Great news! My sci-fi short film "Please Don't Send Help" will be part of the Stockholm City Film Festival. 🥳

I made it using NASA's archival footage, a tiny budget, a talented voice actress, and lots of elbow grease - and it's amazing to see it in festivals all around the world. :)
Poster for my short film "Please Don't Send Help" - a person's hand is pressed against the opaque white screen. The word "Don't" is included in red handwriting in the middle of "Please Send Help." The laurel reads "Official selection, Stockholm City Film Festival"

Good thread on the collapse of the AI bubble:
radiodeadair.com
Nvidia gets to make all the money *now,* probably the only real winner in the entire "AI" debacle.

That win is at the cost of their future, because there's not going to be this kind of market in five years. Everyone's already gone incredible in debt to buy server GPUs they won't be able to pay off.
edzitron.com
Yet even if these data centers get built - and one analyst told me only 30% of them are viable - they are dead weight debt vehicles of what will be near-obsolete GPUs that *everybody* has been buying - all built for AI compute demand that doesn't exist.

Former Finance guy here: yup. Corporations care only about their next quarter - and to hell with everything else. 🫠

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Update: they laughed and clapped! There were zero unscheduled murders! 🥲
The title card for my film ("How to prepare for time travelers in the workplace") on the big screen in a packed movie theater.

I wish that too. 🥲

And honestly, no clue about Tomsk's topography haha. I don't recall there being suburbs... Those huge apartment blocks could fit *a lot* of people.

Not my first live film screening and Q&A, and not even the third, but damn... the jitters. The jitters never go away. 🙃

"How to Prepare for Time Travelers in the Workplace" will have its world premiere in Brooklyn in about an hour. If I never post ever again, that means the audience *hated* it. 😅🗡
