At COP30, Colombia pushed for text on the transition away from fossil fuels. But what's happening with its domestic energy transition? I discussed this w/ @juliaradio.bsky.social for an NPR article, which takes a sober look at the situation instead of repeating various dodgy claims made elsewhere.
This oil producer announced it would move away from oil. Here's what happened next
Two years ago Colombia pledged to stop exploring for new oil, gas and coal. On the world stage, this was a big deal. Here's what's happened since.

🤥The #COP30 presidency said ~80 countries opposed a fossil fuel roadmap but that included 42 members of the Least Developed Countries bloc which denies taking that position. 14 countries were listed as both for and against!

The piece says that Brazil's COP30 presidency hadn't responded at the time of publication so hopefully they might contact the authors to provide some further details on what happened.
SCOOP: Carbon Brief has exclusively obtained a list of 84 countries "opposed" to adding a fossil-fuel roadmap to COP30 deal – but our analysis found a series of contradictions & likely errors

For eg 14 on list are also roadmap "supporters"

What’s been happening with SUV sales in the UK? 🚘

SUV sales have continued to grow in the UK market this year - meaning more emissions, safety risks and road wear, and less space on our roads for pedestrians and communities 📈

Great to see the UK join 🇨🇴 & 🇩🇰 in ending the granting of new oil & gas licences!

The UK should now reject Rosebank & join BOGA.

As 🇨🇴 & 🇳🇱 prepare to host the 1st Int Conf on the Just Transition Away from FFs in 2026, let's hope the UK actively participates & supports 🇨🇴's country platform.
#Breaking | The Gov't of the UK has adopted a policy to ban new oil and gas exploration. 👏

With this plan—which includes just transition elements for workers & communities—the UK becomes the 🌎's largest producer so far to end new licensing.
