baseball is the best preparation for death because it does not come with a clock that tells you when your suffering will end one way or the other

Let’s go M’s!!

I’ve been so tempted to get a heptagon tattoo as a k8s nod but haven’t pulled the trigger yet.

We don't, there will be a new (and hopefully better) normal after this, that said, for the rest of our lives we'll have to be aware a non-trivial number of neighbors and fellows voted for actual fascism, and that's always going to be a bummer

How do we return to any semblance of normal after all this is said and done?

But but you might miss the *thing* that feels super important in the moment but, upon reflection, was really not the end of the world.

Have you considered YAML? 🤣🤣

Hanging out at a bar with my favorite people (Willie, the dog, and @rbeda.bsky.social, the spouse) watching the M’s. First run in the post season since 2001!

I haven’t played in 30+ years. But had a blast programming and modifying the thing.

What fun systems too both run and play!

I co-ran a dikuMUD in high school. Good times.

Glad I can “help” there too. 😂

Thank you for making it happen!

I'm so excited to see what happens with Northsky. I just made a donation because I want stuff like this to exist in the world.

We aren't leaving as we feel a responsibility to our community on multiple levels.

And also, we are insulated from the worst impacts for a variety of reasons and we should use those advantages to help others.

Beyond that, I don't want to. This is my home and I want to fight for it.

I'm realizing a grim exercise/prompt may be in this ...

If others want to share, I'm curious:

Why aren't *you* leaving america (yet)?

Asking for trans folks in particular, especially those of us on HRT and/or other very directly threatened in terms of our healthcare ...

Reposts welcomed. Sigh.

If i were 22, I'd maybe just bail on america. I'm 38 is the problem and I love my life here. My house, my gardens, my dogs. This is where I built my adult existence ...

So Trump can just send out checks to people but Biden couldn't cancel student debt?

I would think that sending checks would require congress to be on board. Or is this just more lawlessness?

For me it was 800x480 but other reports say high resolutions. All I know is that locking it to 5GHz solved my problems.

The screen in question: www.amazon.com/dp/B0CMZYBPDF

(This was with a rpi 4, fwiw)

TIL that the raspberry pi has an issue that if you use HDMI at certain resolutions it interferes with the WiFi radio and makes it flakey. The solution, apparently, is to force it to 5GHz. Computers suck.

If BlueSky creates an AI assistant (and they shouldn’t and, as far as I know, have no plans to) they should name it Alf.

“Even when the status quo sucks, even when the status quo isn't good for most people, it is much easier to just say, ‘Well, we're just not going to do anything,’ because we'll get less political pushback […]. And that's not my style, so I want to do things.”

CHS: There may be an appetite sometimes for a candidate that can say no in a good way. I guess that may be part of it, right?
Wilson: Absolutely, and I very much recognize the things that I want to do as mayor are not going to be universally popular, and I think that one of the reasons why we've seen a lot of good things not happen and we seem to be kind of paralyzed in a lot of respects is that the easiest thing is to do nothing. Even when the status quo sucks, even when the status quo isn't good for most people, it is much easier to just say, "Well, we're just not going to do anything," because we'll get less political pushback from inaction than action. And that's not my style, so I want to do things.
