I once had a very confusing conversation with an Indian guy who wondered if my vegetarianism included things like chicken and pork. I've just realised that this may be the source of that confusion - like, maybe he was just trying to figure out what on earth "vegetarian" means to someone in Scotland.
today in cultural differences via language:

In USA, vegetarian means a person who will eat eggs but not meat

In India vegetarian means a vegan who will drink dairy products

As things are generally bad, for reference a thread of creatures which are considered to belong to the Devil in Scotland. Definitely existing creatures only; Burns' "Address to the Deil" includes such things as Kelpies and Spunkies (akin to Will o the Wisps) as under the deil's control (1/?)

My baby girl (ahem, 10 yr old) has been *away from home* since Wednesday, and I am feeling overwrought and emotional, but when I go to pick her up I need to HOLD IT TOGETHER because she will be *exhausted* as well as overwrought and emotional! Wish me luck 😭

Petition: Do not stop transgender people from receiving care in mainstream hospital wards
The previous government proposed changes to the NHS constitution which would mean transgender hospital patients in England may not be treated in female- and male-only wards. We believe that this segre...

Edinburgh council continues to be a massive shitshow.
‘A new year offers a fresh, less partisan approach to local politics…if this was anything to go by, there’s more chance of Santa coming down your chimney next week’

🎄Analysis: Crisis delivers no Christmas miracles at Edinburgh Council as red lines remain

Crisis delivers no Christmas miracles at Edinburgh Council as red lines remain
It started with some festive favourites sung by a group of local primary school pupils, the familiar verses of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and…

I would like people who talk about death "with dignity" to examine how appallingly ableist the notion of "dignity" often is; how often it means the ability to eat and use the toilet unaided; how rarely it means anything other than ways of being that are normal for some disabled people.

Oh, I love this story every time I see it - I'm so glad it's over here too.
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

Wow. Imagine if UK politicians would do this: to throw back in the faces of the anti-trans crowd how gross and weird and dangerous it is.

And the second video with the quote below— telling people they’re being played and this is all disingenuous crap.

This shouldn’t be “wow” but right now, it is 👏
AOC comes out swinging against a Nancy Mace for targeting Sarah McBride.

"They're doing this so that Nancy Mace can ... fundraise off an email. They're not doing this to protect people. They're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kinds. And everybody should reject it. It's gross."

Recently I've been thinking about accessibility needs I have that are rarely/ever included in standard accessibility guides (eg for workplaces, events, etc) and how to include them better - I'd love to know what other people would find useful to be included too.
