In middle school, I wrote a 4-page paper in a couple of hours on the book “Bridge on the River Kwai” after not reading the book at all and relying on what I remembered from watching the movie version… and landed a B on it. It was a watershed moment and a slacker badge of honor.
I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

I'm convinced that Hegseth had everyone show up in person knowing that their inherent discipline would keep the various generals and admirals from laughing in his face, as opposed to commenting on what a pathetic clownshoes drunk he is to their peers if he just sent this rant out as an email.
