Hello, I'm Handy
I live near the Humber Estuary where I crochet, taxi my Young'un around, watch Dr Who, Strictly, Bake-Off, Sewing Bee etc, go to occasional random gigs and walk when my foot isn't crocked!
Married to Mr H for 34 years, adjusting to life beyond work, opposite of a domestic goddess 😁
Luna is here and today we went for a walk, then practiced Sit (A*), Wait (A), Heel (B+ in the kitchen, D+ on walks) and Don't Try To Nick Food Off The Worktops (work in progress!)
Lie Down is our latest command, just getting to grips with it as a concept as you can see! (Expand vid for full effect!)

Continuing my food theme this morning, I just stewed a Cox's in the microwave with a bit of mixed spice then threw greek yoghurt and plain granola on top, and am basically having apple crumble for #breakfast 😎

Weird Pride is a celebration, but also, always, an act of defiance - perhaps now more than ever.
Weird Pride Day 4th March 2026

Weird Pride in a Hostile World

This is a day for people to embrace their weirdness, & reject the stigma associated with being weird. To publicly express pride in the things that make us weird, and to celebrate the diversity of humankind

SCHOOLS!

Here are fifteen books.

I'm giving them away.

If you're a UK school and would like them, let me know.

I'll pick one of you this evening.

You can share it too, if you like.

Ta.

Young'un has made a chocolate #cake for her birthday on Friday
Luckily there a quite a few trimmings left over so I don't have to wait until then to try it, albeit in deconstructed form 😁🤤

Luna is here! #DogSky
We've been for a very chilly walk and now she's determinedly wedged herself into her tiny puppy bed to nap while I am confirming to myself that #knitting definitely does not come as naturally to me as #crochet 🧶

My Young'un loves cacti but never remembers to water them.
So as part of her birthday gifts I've made her an unkillable mini cactus plant!
It was a kit but I altered it a bit #crochet 🧶

Mongolian heavy rock complete with throat singing and trad instruments.
What more can one want to liven up a Friday night? 😎

Listening now - it's great...

Tense, dark, multi-layered electronica deeply rooted in bleak moorland landscapes and steeped in the rhythm of railway lore.

What's not to love?

Nasty easterly wind looks as if it's going to persist here for a good while yet.
I'm not usually one for grumbling about the weather but because of the orientation of our house the bedrooms are blooming freezing 🥶
Young'un is especially peeved by this which means I'm hearing about it at length...

I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

On the way out this morning
Sunshine today; a southerly wind has blown away the weekend's nasty roke.
Saw a kestrel and a sparrowhawk along the hedgerow (both male); the kestrel tilted over the roof of the car and skimmed into the open field, sparrowhawk glared from the top of a hawthorn #my400

Finished making myself a "not Christmas" winter jumper (sweater) and I'm super happy with it.
It's warm without being heavy and I like how the colours have worked with each other.
Side note: Taking decent selfies inside on dark January evenings is hard. Excuse the kitchen paraphernalia

It stopped raining (hooray) so we had a very puddly and splashy walk.
Luna did pretty well although she pulls a lot on the last few yards home so the neighbours get to judge me as I stop every ten steps, get her to sit and calm down, take three steps and repeat.
She's good and tired though! #DogSky

It's raining and I know this isn't especially newsworthy, but I would like to register a protest with the universe because it's bin day and puppy-sitting day.
It's looking likely I'll get drenched twice...
*sigh*

Good morning. On my long walk yesterday 💚. Listen to this little brook is babbling loudly after all the rain this week. Look at those thickly mossed banks. This place is full of wildlife. Sound on!
