There are only three possible outcomes for undocumented immigrants in this country: mass deportation, amnesty, or legal limbo (i.e., status quo for last 40 years). The first causes violence in communities and harassment of citizens. The third quietly ruins people's lives, as opportunities pass them.

I would argue that, if the functioning of a system depends on the goodwill of the actors, the main problem is the system. The US Constitution has failed, and Americans (in general) have a hard time accepting that.

I keep trying to explain this to younger people that weren't there in the 80s to understand this mess. Democrats today, are mostly just republicans of the 80s. People they see as "liberals" are really moderates. Modern day republicans are right wing extremists that would have been shunned back then.

Government employees and office holders should not have freedom of speech to lie and deceive the public. The first amendment is to protect the speech of private individuals. The government should be required to tell the truth to the best of their knowledge, as if they're permanently under oath.
