Instead of conferring titles, gongs and baubles and then demanding those titles, gongs and baubles be removed…

…perhaps as a modern, mature polity we should have far fewer titles, gongs and baubles in the first place.

Friday: time for my weekly self abasement as I bare my shameful #paleoography "skills" & try #skystorians patience with pleas for rescue again! 🗃️

1) surname: I read 'M-something-cadye' but WAT?

2) Page title: 'Empcyans & pravycyn' - I'm talking total gibberish. ('howse' is clear though)

Rachel Reeves: "It is not right that people who don't go to university bear the cost for others to." I don't use local leisure centres and I don't drive, so will I be made exempt for taxation that pays for all that stuff? Or is it only education we'll be going after

Have any other archivist been contacted by AlphaSights to consult on digital preservation systems? They've somehow got my personal details and I want to know how

Finally got round to watching Sinners, it's just absolutely brilliant. Would recommend anybody who enjoyed it to try reading The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez 🦇🩸

Obviously, but anyone notable telling the public this stuff is going to be destroyed in short order. If the left/lib bloc can’t deliver Thatcherism enforced by crackdowns, then they will be replaced by the reactionary/fascist one, whatever it takes to get it done.

I fear this is going to become way more common
So, part of my job is to see what people are making of the history of our Hospital.

Bethlem partly exists in the gothic, horror-adjacent end of history, and so attracts a certain kind of presentation.

Restraints, gore, electrodes, I thought I'd seen it all. Until...

...I stumbled onto this book.

I will never not talk about catgut
We have been watching #Amadeus and the opening titles piqued our interest. The animations show the making of catgut, a material used for both musical instruments and for surgical suturing. We've paired some stills with images from our collection to show how catgut was made 🧵🪡

My parents were without water for two days and four days on they are still waiting to get reconnected to the national grid
Quite impressed that homes without water in Kent get a headline on Radio 6 News, when the thousands of homes without power, or without water, in Cornwall hasn’t made national news.

The narrative about London crime is truly so BORING to Londoners.

Those of us who walk & travel around our city safely every day, every night.

The likeliest daily risk to Londoners is of being ripped off by our landlord or somewhere charging us £4.50 for a coffee. #r4today

I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance".

It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder".

The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.

Pray for me!
BBC running Ripper-adjacent Victorian murder mystery doc followed by a Titanic sinking reconstruction in one evening?

Thoughts and prayers for my colleagues manning the enquiry services out there, it'll be a week.
