In ostentatiously siding with the downtrodden versus "the one percent", it's very worthwhile checking his earlier Gallic contemporary Salvian of Marseilles.

Academia and particularly the humanities is facing a global crisis. We need to be supporting each other. What we do not need to be doing is tarring kind, brilliant people with political views and personality traits they don’t have just because you disagree with the results of their research.

Apropos nothing in particular, one can disagree with a good junior scholar's arguments about a set of events in the past without maligning them as advancing a harmful political agenda whose emergence post-dates work they did on those events and with which that scholar is openly, clearly, not aligned

Portland, Chicago, LA, DC, soon NYC perhaps— these "blue" cities are not DOING anything beforehand apart from (mostly) disapproving of the Trump regime and having lots of immigrants. The crime narrative is a myth, the sending in of ICE and army (!) intended to provoke dissent. This may backfire

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Today in turbo-charged introductions to Byzantium, I tried covering Eastern Roman History c. 400-600 CE. In 20 minutes. And I nearly got there... Until I tried explaining Christology. BAM! 10 MORE MINUTES THROUGH THE WINDOW!

If have to summarize the class it would be:
"Laws, Walls, and Chalcedon".
