In Nuremberg in 1945, the Americans established the principle that "just following orders" is no excuse for crime. The six members of Congress are right to remind us of that today
The Duty to Disobey Unlawful Orders Was America’s Idea
“Stauffenberg pointed the way: if your obedience requires you to do criminal, unhuman things, you are no longer bound by your oath. A soldier’s final benchmark must always, in the last instance, be his conscience, not his orders.” That’s what Jan Techau, a friend of mine with a special vantage on this matter (more about Stauffenberg in a minute), told me when I asked him what he thought about a controversy now raging in the United States.

For less than the price of one basic 800 W #balconysolar unit + installation in California (> 2000 USD?) you could get a #Balkonkraftwerk in Germany with:
-4x 500 W panels = 2000 W total
-inverter limited to 800 W feed-in
-integrated 1,6 kWh battery

...costing 1.379 EUR or 1.600 USD

When the UK's new nuclear power plant Hinkley Point C starts to produce power in 2030, its guaranteed 'strike price' will have risen to ~150 £/MWh (170 €/MWh). Average wholesale electricity prices will probably be around half of that, so that's a 50% subsidy.

... In essence that #sandBattery is a heating station that can continuously provide 2 MW of renewable heat for 10 days straight when the wind doesn't blow and the sun doesn't shine.

California is now at a point where solar power displaces fossil gas as #1 electricity source.

Both account for 40 TWh per year, with solar increasing and gas declining.

Also, batteries provide 5 GW during summer evening peak hours, compared to just 1 GW in 2022.

When wind power is abundant and spot prices are negative (which occurs in Finland about 700 hours per year, including winter) this #sandBattery takes excess electricity off the grid, stores 250 megawatt-hours (MWh) heat in hot sand, and afterwards feed 2 megawatts (MW) into the #districtHeating grid

What's the deal with balcony solar?
Cora Stryker joins me to explain how "plug-in" solar took Europe by storm and is finally, via Utah (?), making its way to America.

It would be fair to specify in the title of the article that the said problem with Car Batteries does NOT relate to battery-powered electric vehicles.

It's about recycling of lead acid batteries: meaning starter batteries for internal combustion vehicles.

EVs use lithium batteries, not lead-acid.

I'm really glad renewable technology development doesn't depend on the COP negotiations.

Petrostates, fossil fuel companies, and their lackeys can sabotage diplomacy, but it's becoming increasingly transparent what they do is simply evil, while we will ditch fossil fuels anyway.
