I first wanted to write this last Thursday when the latest discourse was swirling, but took the weekend, and re-drafted opening not with the governor and his critics, but on the great Billy Bragg.
Historical analogies are arguments. So when someone makes an analogy between today and the Holocaust, or today and anything, think about they are really arguing for. What is the analogy trying to get you to do?

Perry: When is it OK to compare aspects of what’s happening in Minnesota to Nazi Germany?
Gov. Tim Walz has made some such analogies in relation to ICE and has been criticized for it, David M. Perry writes.

I went to ICE headquarters yesterday to demand accountability. No one is above the law, and every single person who has been assaulted by an ICE agent deserves justice.

Our next steps are clear. No more funding for ICE. Investigations must begin. Kristi Noem must be removed.

Yesterday, five-year-old Liam and his dad Adrian were released from Dilley detention center. I picked them up last night and escorted them back to Minnesota this morning.

Liam is now home. With his hat and his backpack.

In Springfield, Ohio, people are preparing in advance of a “large deportation” promised by the president. To all appearances, the city is 2 or 3 days from a federal ethnic cleansing, grounded in a hate campaign organized by the vice-president and American Nazis.

@kateconger.com Thanks for such an interesting discussion at UCI tonight and thank you so much for speaking to the gender dynamics at work here. I teach high school and the gender split is so striking.

@rmac.bsky.social Thank you for such an interesting discussion at UCI tonight. I would have asked about the connection between the "have-yachts" and the Network State movement if there had been time. But thank you for your reporting - even if it is bleak, I agree.

Q: Can you be specific about how many ICE and CBP agents are currently operating in the state?

HOMAN: 3,000. There's been some rotations. They've been in theater a long time. Day after day, can't eat in restaurants, people spin on you, blowing whistles at you. But my main focus now is draw down

remember what JD Vance said of the ICE agents that arrested this little boy: “what did you expect them to do?”
Just visited with Liam and his father at Dilley detention center. I demanded his release and told him how much his family, his school, and our country loves him and is praying for him.

Can we stop with the qualifying language here? These videos don’t “appear” to contradict DHS claims; they *do* contradict DHS claims
Videos analyzed by @nytimes appear to contradict DHS accounts that the man approached agents with a handgun and the intent to “massacre” them. Footage shows the man holding a phone in his hand, not a gun, when agents take him to the ground. www.nytimes.com/live/2026/us...
