Our immigrant communities are under attack from the Federal government. This year, our Council office has received an influx of constituent concerns about immigrant and refugee services.

Apply this language to higher levels of government in this country and see how it sounds: "the executive is having his allies push to change the constitution so that he can hire whoever he wants to lead vital executive departments, with no confirmation vote from the legislative branch."

Looking like voters may have to defeat this charter amendment whenever it arrives on our ballots. I'm waiting for someone to point to specific examples of a confirmation process that went off the rails because too much scrutiny was applied. Most confirmations are quiet and non-controversial.
