i don't understand how dan ryan using his public sector email constituent list to tell voters not to vote for the tax levy, a clear breach of the explicit public facing/campaign dichotomy, is somehow less of a scandal than group chat text messages
Dan Ryan using his official city email to send a novel-length email telling people he's voting No on the Parks Levy is a great endorsement for voting Yes on the Parks Levy
like it’s so transparently just the cheapest fastest path to unlocking their enforcement abilities again. there was never even an optics argument for doing it this way if you weren’t gonna lean hard on enforcement ASAP, much less a humanitarian one
the no day shelters thing makes me so crazy bc like. even if i put myself in the shoes of someone with 0 compassion for homeless ppl who conflates feelings of discomfort with actual danger… people are still gonna be out Being Homeless At Me during the day, the time i am most likely to notice it!
the song is based on a real coyote who rode the MAX in 2002! the truth is out there!

If bunnies are up Lotka-Volterra model states coyote increase isn’t far behind….gotta get transit funded before that happens
also a couple years back i was riding on SE 28th and saw movement out of the corner of my eye at abt my speed… it was a coyote sprinting thru a series of front yards, he paced me for about a block, v auspicious omen
i have been seeing SO many bunnies this year!! i used to only see them in N/NE but idk if i’m just getting better at spotting them or if it’s a Peak Bunny Year, like with cicadas
this is what happens when you don’t invest in transit, people: coyotes have to walk instead of taking the MAX 😔
yup. my predictions: the latter sets off Timber Unity II and the former plunges NotMultPortland County into deep austerity like many of Oregon’s non-urban counties since the timber industry went kaput and we’re taking 80% of the tax base…. so still Timber Unity II but a few budget cycles later
reading more closely, seems like portland is the only one that would NEED to consolidate so this might also be about just hating the county that much lol. still wild that they‘re framing this as “so simple and flexible” bc like, who’d pay for the guaranteed service levels in rural areas?
ok progressive case for consolidation:
1: do inner eastside for all and build enough housing for one million portlanders to live comfortably and affordably
2: wait for them to move in
3: consolidate now that population in the urban core is high enough to not get rolled by fucking troutdale lol
not to mention rural east county outside of the ugb which is gonna have extremely different needs than like, gresham. also presumably if you consolidate do you also need every smaller city gov to agree to go away… the same small cities that specifically incorporated to avoid being annexed into pdx?
is there one? feels like it inherently undermines the city‘s ability to do good city policy by requiring more compromise/negotiation with suburbs/exurbs who wanna stay that way. also how does tax base and revenue distribution change under consolidation

i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times
large boulder the size of a small boulder
my heart skipped a beat for a second there ngl
only learned Penson (Rose Quarter) left in this piece about Johnson (IBR) leaving *the same week*….. u ok ODOT
It's the fourth time in less than a year a high-profile leader with oversight of an I-5 freeway expansion megaproject has walked away.

Another freeway expansion megaproject leader has jumped ship

CHOTINER: So you asked for a Birkin bag?
KOKO: Yes. Possession Bag.
CHOTINER: And you had the funds to acquire this?
KOKO: No, Professor Purchase Koko Gorilla
CHOTINER: That doesn't sound like the funds were justifiable.
KOKO: Hostility Interviewer

In the Times today there’s an op-ed saying that childless women may have legitimate “private” reasons for declining to give birth. But one reason I have is not private but explicitly political: I want my life to serve as a rebuke to the notion that childbearing is women’s highest or truest calling.

this is what will happen if mamdani makes bus rides free
today on the MAX someone told me I was “dressed like a Depeche Mode song” and I‘m calling on our civic leaders to address the epidemic of Being Truly And Deeply Seen By Complete Strangers that plagues our transit system
