You know the best part of having been raised Christian and actually having tried to memorize and live by the Good Book?

I can tell right now there are a lot of "Christians" who wanna pretend Matthew 26:52 either doesn't exist or doesn't apply to a certain somebody whose death exemplifies it.

Utterly sickening how many Elves are celebrating the assassination of Lord Gothmog during his recent visit to the city of Gondolin. Gothmog was ATTACKED while expressing his patriotism as a proud servant of the Shadow. HE NEVER STABBED ANYBODY! So much for the "fair and wise" Children of Eru!!!

This is why, on Bluesky, we block instead of engage.
Very interesting algorithm analysis, which explains the repeated problems with content moderation getting in the way of social justice

tldr: it's always good to block a TERF or a white supremacist or any other type of fascist

With news of a reported settlement with Anthropic I went back to check the class action form and it now allows authors outside the US to input their address, so it may be worth adding your known pirated titles (from the LibGen pirate database) www.lieffcabraser.com/anthropic-au...

AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action

I've shared this with several authors recently, so I thought some of you might find it helpful as well. I'm a big supporter of not italicizing non-English words, especially in fiction, and this article does a good job of explaining why. qz.com/quartzy/1310...
Bilingual authors are challenging the practice of italicizing non-English words
In Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah, her Nigerian narrator moves to the US for college, but still fondly uses Igbo with her family. “What kind of man bleaches his skin, biko?” Ifemelu asks her au...

I find it funny when an animated movie for an original IP that wasn't meant to be a big deal ends up making bank, and then every executive is left wondering how it happened. The answer is then always that the movie had a coherent and well-crafted story, looked cool, and had good music. Every time.

Idk if anyone needs to hear this buuuuuuuut just in case it resonates with anybody else out there Imma say it:

You pay for commissions with MONEY. Not snacks, not video games, not art supplies you think the artist will like. Unless the artist EXPLICITLY SAYS OTHERWISE, you pay up with MONEY.

We must unite against AI the way Shelley and Lovelace united against Byron.
we have both computers and science fiction because Byron was so insufferable it inspired all the women around him to come up with elaborate reasons to get away
Ok folks: what is your favorite fact that you share with people (maybe a bit too) eagerly?

I continue to find fascinating the stories about early women "computers" who worked in astronomy, this story on #WomeninScience in the 19th C
These highly educated women were "paid the same lowly rate as the teenage boy ‘computers’, rather than the higher rate paid to their fellow male assistants" 👩‍🔬

Guest blogger Louise Devoy reflects on the first generation of paid female astronomers at Greenwich, who helped to prove that women could actively contribute to professional science.

Miller complaining about protestors-- "respectable" old white ones, no less!-- is a strong sign that

1) they are scared of protest;

2) protests are happening; and

3) they are having an impact, even if the media refuses to cover them.

I love how I expected Dr. Frizzle to walk into a room with a bunch of old church elders shouting "burn the witch" at her boss and this is only 13% inaccurate
I’ve had a shit morning. Who wants to hear about the time I (according to my old boss) ended up on a heresy watch list at Mormon church headquarters for maybe, possibly, accidentally teaching my students sex magic

also, hi pubs! it's really helpful for you to instantly send artists a template in whatever file format the artist works in! i have a hell of a time setting up bleed and trim on my own (i ALWAYS get it wrong somehow) and this way i can tell if it's correct because i have the visual guide to aid me
Artists working in mainstream USA comics: Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, etc. all expect art to these dimensions. I'm seeing more and more disregard for the standard specs, and it affects everyone's deadlines to have production try and wrestle your art into proper proportions.
