I've created a starter pack for high-signal Bay Area transit advocates! These are all people I respect for their knowledge, thoughtfulness, and dedication to improving transit funding and transit systems.

I'm at the SFMTA board meeting. A few highlights from Director of Transportation Julie Kirschbaum's report:

-the Potrero Yard Modernization Project has drastically changed with no housing units above the the new bus yard due given construction costs, interest rates, volatility of market.

I don’t even work with SQL or databases that much, but my 300-level database class was maybe the most impactful class I’ve taken for “practical knowledge that I just have when I need it”.

At this point, I think >50% of my car-miles travelled in San Francisco have been for vet visits (long bus trips stress out the guinea pig, who does not seem to mind BART at all).

Meat is a blind spot for people who care about climate. When I used to have dinner with my colleague Wally Broecker, the climate scientist who coined the term “global warming”, he would always order a steak.

Yesterday I went to an East Bay Regional Parks board study session to encourage them to take a proactive leadership role in getting transit into their parks.

The nearest bus stop is over 1.5mi – the best way to get there was a 7mi bike ride from the nearest BART station.

Access includes meetings!

I need to figure out what I can do with sharpening. It’s got that potato “shot through a closed window” quality.

Today, AC Transit buses will honor the memory and legacy of Director H. E. Christian "Chris" Peeples.

It’s an annual 3-day Pride installation since 2022 - an array of lasers down one of SF’s main streets. Absolute photographer bait.

Reminder that "not acting" shapes the future as much as "acting" does and that not choosing is a choice.

Late-posting, but one of my favourite things every year is the Market Street lights.
A photo of a street at night, taken from a bus platform with a bus to one side. The view is down the street toward a bright rainbow projection that extends overhead.

I think the problem is less designating the copyright and more dissemination/discovery. For example, is there a good way to pitch specifics/the pool, outside of the situation you described?

I’m so energized by today’s rally to save transit!

I spoke about how dependent El Cerrito is on transit. We’re one of the most pro-housing cities in the Bay Area, and almost all of it is being built near transit. We need robust transit.

Gov Newsom: approve the $750 mil transit loan immediately!

Thank you to Mayor Lurie, Senator @scottwiener.bsky.social, Councilmember @rebeccaforec.bsky.social, and all the other officials who took the time to attend and share their support for keeping the Bay Area's public transit, some of the best in the nation, funded and running.

Fantastic last-minute turnout for the Bay Area transit funding rally this morning with @transbaycoalition.bsky.social.

We need @governor.ca.gov to follow through on a promised 750 million for transit, or risk devastating service cuts and a spiral of traffic nightmares.

It’s unfortunate that we lack unity around high-assist e-bikes (with or without throttles) even amongst people who ride bikes, because there is such a strong strain of crunchiness that sees something distasteful about bike riding without sufficient work, as if the work is the point.
isthelaststop.bsky.social
People get stuck thinking in shortcuts that don’t always hold. A motorcycle is dangerous because of its speed and mass, but people get sucked into playing “what’s technically a sandwich?” with e-bikes instead of thinking about attributes.

It’s gaslighting, in the classic sense.

Of course the car can drive itself. It’s right there in the name. No the car can’t drive itself. Why would you ever say anything so ridiculous? Didn’t you read the owner’s manual?
whisperingpines.bsky.social
Tesla and musk constantly talk about this full self-driving as being a car that is a smart robot that can drive itself and then in all of their documents they say it's just a fancy cruise control mixed with Lane departure and that you have to be fully aware and ready to take over

Earlier this evening at Market and Montgomery streets, transit, pedestrian and bike advocates denounced Mayor Daniel Lurie's decision to allow Waymo, Uber Black and Lyft Black to drive on parts of Market Street that had been "car-free" since 2020.
