DHS has entered a shutdown following expiration of funding.

With Congress scheduled to go into recess, the shutdown could last for weeks.

A majority of DHS employees — including those within TSA, FEMA, and ICE — are considered essential, meaning they will continue working without immediate pay.

One of the terrible things about the ICE occupation of Minneapolis is that they’ve been doing stuff that is so crazy that people assume it’s some kind of exaggeration, despite being widely documented on video. Following observers home! Lurking outside elementary schools! Black-bagging citizens!

Rubio just made a speech to the European defense community in Munich that did not mention Ukraine. Or democracy. Or US business deals with Russia. Or the administration's plans to support the European far right. But there were lots of nice words about our common civilization.

Pity the poor corporations who aren't earning enough off of imprisoning people
In earnings calls earlier today, investors in GEO Group and CoreCivic, both closely tied to the GOP, criticized ICE. Their chief complaint? ICE's detained population, despite hitting record highs, still isn't large enough. Concentration camps are pure profit to these companies.
Despite Increased Profits, Private Prison Companies Want to Cage Even More People
CoreCivic and GEO Group’s investors expressed frustration that ICE’s record immigration detention numbers aren’t high enough.

new from me: it's interesting that one of the biggest roadblocks we're seeing to ICE buying up warehouses to convert into modern day concentration camps for detained immigrants is conservative NIMBYs (non-derogatory, for once) saying "not here, thanks"
