If On a Winter’s Night a Traveler, by Italo Calvino.

Before this book, almost all that I read was sci-fi/fantasy and horror. It opened me up to so many more kinds of writing and stories. I sought surreal and absurdist fiction, found new authors and small publishers.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

I realize a lot of my posts are… angry? Strident? …aggressive??
I use foul language a lot, yes. There is certainly a lot to be angry about. However, I feel like I am - or want to be - a rather silly or goofy human in person. That definitely does not seem to come through on here.

This, of course, doesn't respond to the actual issue, which is that "rude" is a foundationally unsuitable label for a network wide, mandatory, labeller, because "rude" is almost purely subjective.

Bruce Harrell ran a dishonest, sexist campaign that too many alleged liberals fell for but it still wasn't enough. Wilson ran a somewhat amateurish campaign that could have stood to be far more negative and it was just enough. Seattle still not beating the accusations

And then I understood why so many people don’t read or don’t enjoy reading. How do you undo this kind of teaching?

Democrats Should Have Let Republicans Kill the Filibuster
Instead of caving on the shutdown, Democrats should have waited for the GOP to cave on Trump’s demand to scotch this antidemocratic tactic.

That’s what the fucking government is for - representing the people **collectively** to do what they can’t do individually.
Rand Paul is an idiot.
I was at an event yesterday where Rand Paul spoke via video and talked about how great it was to send ACA money "directly to the people" so that they could work collectively to get better deals on health care.
