After a truly dire couple of weeks there are signs that Keir Starmer’s post-McSweeney Downing Street operation may finally be starting to drag itself from the brink of death

I prefer it when ‘Traitors’ describes the TV program, not the people potentially electing the next government.
2024 Reform UK voters are also less likely to describe themselves as anti-Russia (48%) than other voters (66-79%)

It would be so nice to feel just a little bit optimistic about what's going on in Downing St.
The messaging on immigrants & the EU has improved.
Now we need change on human & democratic rights (trans people & protests), wealth inequality & a U-turn on juries.

First Past the Post can no longer deliver real mandates - only chaos. 60% of Brits want it scrapped.

Yet the Representation of the People Bill won’t even touch our voting system, which leaves millions unrepresented.

Tell Keir Starmer to change this.

The usual excellent work from @sangitamyska.bsky.social
Why isn't she (for example) with the @theguardian.com ?
I mean it's great that she's still writing, and three cheers for @bylinetimes.bsky.social but really that sort of talent deserves a permanent job!

The Lesson Jim Ratcliffe Could Learn From My Immigrant Father-in-Law
The Manchester United-owning tax exile says the UK has been “colonised” by immigrants but he could learn much from the hard working migrants who have made their lives here, argues Sangita Myska

The Epstein Files tell a horrific and heavy story of abuse and corruption. But power protects itself through the expectation that we will feel paralysed by the sense of powerlessness.

Their release is a seminal moment.

That's why our new Byline Times print edition delves into the deeper story 👇

For 50 years, the median wage of hourly workers stagnated or declined while the stock market and CEO pay skyrocketed.

Is it any wonder why so many feel abandoned by the system? People lose faith, and a demagogue fills the void.

This is why we must fix the system. AOC is right.
AOC: "Extreme level of wealth inequality leads to social instability and drives authoritarianism, right-wing populism, and really dangerous domestic internal politics. That is a direct outcome of the failure of democracies over decades to deliver."

Calling him an ex-PM first is misleading. He's been a lobbyist for fossil fuel and tech bros twice as long as he was PM
Absolutely brilliant take-down by @fionaharvey.bsky.social
of ludicrous myths & misinformation spouting from Tony Blair’s think tank. Why on earth does he think it’s sensible to make our energy more costly & less secure?
Tony Blair’s oil lobbying is a misleading rehash of fossil fuel industry spin
Ex-PM’s thinktank urges more drilling and fewer renewables, ignoring evidence that clean energy is cheaper and better for bills

When you begin a statement with "I am sorry that my choice of language has offended some people..." you are absolutely NOT apologising. You are trying to excuse yourself.
Jim Ratcliffe has issued a bland and generic statement about economic policy which does not engage at all with what he got wrong, or why saying the UK has been colonised has been legitimately criticised. Nor does he seem to retract his language of colonisation in gesturing towards a semi-apology

Hi Sarah Pochin, on the day you defended Nigel Farage’s working from home policy, you were on TV, working from home, getting upset about how a society at a university that has nothing to do with your job as MP of Runcorn told you it didn’t want you at a debating society event.
