A windfall tax on banks was a sensible policy.

There's only one reason it didn't happen: "intense and ultimately successful" lobbying from the banks 👉 www.politico.eu/arti...

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.
Headline on The World at One just now:

"Sir Keir Starmer has denied putting the Labour Party before the country by ending the two-child benefit cap".

Can we please go back to reporting the actual news, not someone's partisan take on it?

Net migration has fallen again to 204,000, the lowest level since 2021 and is forecast to continue falling over the coming years.

Not that you would know it from the endless coverage of Britain's supposed "immigration crisis"

This is how it works: after lobbying Richard Tice with a trip to the French Riviera (to discuss "gas power" without having any expertise in the industry), the wife of a former Putin minister now attacks Labour and Conservatives. You don't need Specsavers to see what is going on.

Nigel Farage has spent £1m taking out adverts in the papers to distract from the Nathan Gill Russian bribe scandal.

We can't let him buy himself out of this. We need an investigation into Russian influence in our politics.

Pleased to report that, after we intimated we would sue it, Ofcom has changed course and will look again at whether TalkTV is complying with the Broadcasting Code.

We are also now starting to look with our lawyers at the BBC's whitewashing of trans existence. goodlaw.social/vfq2

We said we’d sue over Ofcom’s decision to dismiss 22,000 complaints about transphobia on TalkTV – now the regulator has caved.

Tory immigration policy - ruinous, prejudiced madness.
Tory Brexit ideology - ruinous, prejudiced madness.

Why Labour is killing itself and the country to try to soothe the unsoothable rightwing media is beyond me. Tell the goddam truth. Publish the damage. Only then can you start to fix it.

Donald Trump is a thief, a child molester, and a traitor. He's currently selling this country's future to Vladimir Putin, so Putin won't release the kompromat Epstein gave him. He's murdering fishermen for...reasons.

The usual excellent journalism from @nation.cymru here.
We do need a much more independent BBC - which means making some major changes to the governance, to remove the current bias towards what the tories see as "business as usual".
That's utterly out of date, like them.
The head of the culture select committee has advised against replacing BBC chairman Samir Shah and said the board needs to institute some “fundamental changes” amid “chaos” at the corporation
