The same redheaded Midwesterner I've always been. Still in Seattle. Still up to hijinks. Physically incapable of slowing down.

Starting off the 2025 list of books I've read:
I'm sad I never got to tour the White House before the East wing was demolished.

Good thing no one ever developed a show called The East Wing because that would definitely be an anachronistic show at this point, eh?

IDK who owns the Freda B. but what a gorgeous boat!

I rarely post on Blue sky, but read this piece this morning and was so mind blown at how bad it was that I came here to see if anyone else had read it and if I was way off base.

No one I know is unconcerned about the potential health care hikes. And that includes Republican and independent friends
What an embarrassing piece of "analysis" by Nate Cohn.

A poll from 2024, before the GOP passed a bill in 2025 that will explode health care cost for millions, showed few people placed health care as their #1 issue (people's #2, #3, or #4 issues are irrelevant).

I hope all of you started your day with August by Taylor Swift.

I know I did.

Amusingly, yesterday I listened to a podcast about cults where the hosts questioned whether Swifties were in a cult.

Please enjoy this meme :-D

THEY F*CKING TOOK THE ICE CREAM MAN! The photo says it all.
Masked ICE goons grabbed Enrique Lozano in front of a Culver City, CA church. A Community Coalition helped the family identify the abandoned cart, locate his belongings. For 20 years, loved in the community. "Hardened criminals" - my ass.

I watch crime procedurals to fall asleep and I've gotten through Criminal Minds (at least twice!), most CSIs, and recently watched through NCIS: New Orleans, but y'all, IDK if it's the time of life or if it's the show, but I literally cannot stay awake for OG NCIS. It is like hardcore tryptophan.

Book #7 of the year: Summer Island by Kristin Hannah

Definitely a favorite of Hannah's works, exploring complicated family dynamics in the modern age. Absolutely a tearjerker! But set in the San Juans, which makes everything better.

My mom's best friend gifted it to me after my mom died.

I have had the wildest, worst set of travel situations this week. Well, my family has.

I'll tell you more later. But today, I'll tell you about Jazmon from Memphis, TN. She's a single mom and an Uber driver. And she's an angel.

Its been a full day already this morning. My dad called to tell me that the Amtrak train to NOLA was canceled. They are, in fact - flooding in Tennessee. I was able to purchase Greyhound tix for him, but maybe just barely - and the return trip is a nightmare - NOLA to ATL to Chicago to Champaign.

Reading about the dire wolf news? Read this ⬇️
I have devoted my life to ice age ecosystems, and I feel an acute responsibility to tell the stories of extinct species and to help people to know them better. To see this work being done with such a casual disregard not only for the truth but for life itself is genuinely abhorrent to me.

Totally, totally not related, literally broke the seal today in frustration over the most stupid online spat (about junk science in a TV show) and I've been in tears all night.

I don't even know why. Protest? BIL helping my dad with another stupid problem? People being nice about my sandwichiness?

Was literally talking about this today...
This is the cohort holding society together: taking care of both feral teens & aging elders, generally while holding down FT jobs.
We joke about Wine Moms, but in all seriousness: when middle-aged and older women are mobilized against state power, the forces of the modern state tend to be paralyzed. And in the context of the United States, middle aged and older *white* women are especially powerful in that regard.

My *GOD* Xfinity sucks.

I am trying to access my mom's Xfinity account because my dad is being charged $500 a month for IDEK what. It would be easiest to do this online because trying to get him to read relevant information to me over the phone is like nails on chalkboard at this point.

#WomensHistoryMonth: The City of Women Map is a fascinating visualization of women’s history and urban transportation. Created by Molly Roy, Rebecca Solnit, and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, the map renames subway stops after notable women with links to that area, offering an entirely new way to view #NYC.
