Reading about the Buffy sequel/revival/whatever, and, I'm wondering why a show about a teenage blonde being lusted after by various centuries old vampires wasn't a whole string of red flags about Joss Whedon at the time.

Reminds me of the time my uncle left me watching the film of Blue Thunder, because 5 year old me loved the television show.
I accidentally let my 6 year old watch Django after asking the school mums to recommend any kids movies. It turns out they had actually suggested Rango.

Good to see that even in a casual, impromptu game, Burton still padded up.

30 years ago, I didn't watch much of The Beatles Anthology when it was first broadcast, I was 18 years old.

What I do remember is thinking how old the 50 something Beatles looked.

Today, I'm surprised by how young they look.

And, it's an absolute impossibility for them to consider that especially when dealing with major franchises, the creators are just as dedicated a fan as they are.
More Ron Moore AOL fan interactions from the 90s.

The first one deals with fan entitlement - the delusion that every true fan believes as they do and that they have ownership over the show because they care so much.

It's terribly unfair, but at any point over the last 20 years, whenever Brennan Brown turns up in anything, I immediately refer to him as the "Orange Wednesday's bloke."

This is why the nutters are devoting so much time and effort into hobby gatekeeping.

They don't want their hobby being considered unmanly.
There's a whole theory out there that straight masculinity is basically defined by excluding everything feminine.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
