"Western nations have endured crime waves, terror attacks, sexual assaults..." due to "mass migration"

Gone: US confidence in the West’s capacity to win the world's hearts & minds

Instead: paranoid rejection of the ideals that built the West

As for being at COP30, the PM has a Budget to defend & launch—one which is central to his strategy of ‘climate competitiveness’ (budget.canada.ca/2025/report-rapport/chap1-en.html#a20)

We’ll see if the fossil award is warranted

That consensus, in the midst of intense polarization around energy/climate, economic strategy & governance, would be a massive win in the fight to protect climate & biodiversity

Canada could become a major player in the global effort to manage the planet's resources sustainably

I’m not privy to the PM’s calculations, but my guess is that he’s concerned to secure national consensus around a shared objective of rebuilding the economy while driving down the “emissions intensity of the energy we generate, and the products and resources we produce” (eg via clean tech)

Carney's climate backsliding 'earned' Canada a fossil award at #COP30

That's not the leadership Canadians want or need
At COP30 Canada just got awarded the fossil of the day — first time since 2014 (the harper years). Clear sign of how Carney’s pro fossil fuel agenda and backsliding on climate policy is being noticed internationally.

Seems a great form of direct action. Better to avoid excess CO2 in the first place, but can someone comment on the viability of doing this at scale to head off some of the drastic effects of climate warming? Any downside? See makesunsets.com/products/join-the-next-balloon-launch-and-cool-the-planet

Thanks Glen! It's good to encourage everyone to work through how we should respond as climate disaster strikes. But adaptation is not really up to dealing with the force of climate change: we're talking about mitigating not avoiding damage. We need to deal with the root causes. Hope to attend.
