See what happens when you tell sportswriters to stay out of politics? You did this to Ian. Poor little guy can’t even form a coherent thought any more..
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

And then you bring back Kirk Cousins.
the McCarthy question is certainly interesting but there’s really no question about what they should do here:

you play him every snap the rest of the season and if he’s not better by the end you sign someone to compete with him in August and go from there

sitting him again does nothing
It’s Thanksgiving, a time for food, family and football. But before you dig in, this is what I’m hearing on:

- The Vikings and J.J. McCarthy
- George Pickens’ Cowboys future
- Kyle Shanahan’s best coaching job yet
- Tom Brady’s Raiders concerns

And for the first time in 41 days, the Falcons will win a football game.

It must bring maligned Falcons’ fans great joy to see the Saints such a complete mess. (Not that this game is over.)

SEC championship game scenarios: Nobody’s clinched yet, but it’s fairly straightforward.

And of course the new vibes rankings, from Georgia to Florida and between:

I strangely think Tech might come back to win this game. But I never thought Belichick would go 0-3 against Cal, Wake and Duke, so …

Four straight touchdown drives for Pitt, which is averaging 10.6 yards per play on those four drives.

Pitt is averaging 8.7 yards per play. Maybe it’s a tribute to Bill Lewis.
This must be some Georgia Tech tribute to Geoff Collins

Is it just a coincidence this is happening the same week Kirk Cousins is going to start again? I don't think so.

Good piece here. But here are two examples not referenced in the story:
> Falcons fired coach Mike Smith, kept GM Thomas Dimitroff, hired coach Dan Quinn and went to the Super Bowl.
> Falcons fired coach Arthur Smith, kept GM Terry Fontenot, hired coach Raheem Morris and ... kaboom.
When a head coach is fired but a GM stays, what red and green flags might that create for prospective hires? I asked sources around the league with significant experience in the NFL’s hiring cycles and got fascinating responses about the dynamics of a “holdover GM”: www.nytimes.com/athletic/682...
Can it ever work when an NFL coach gets fired but the GM remains?
The Giants appear set to keep their GM but hire a new head coach, an organizational transition with historically mixed results.

It likely will never happen (see: $$$) but they should just cancel all the conference title games. The fact that this debate is even occurring says something.
To play, or not to play, in a conference championship game.

SEC fans are openly rooting for their teams not to make the title game. Are they right?

Maybe, but they may be operating on outdated data:

If Lane Kiffin takes the Florida job, two questions:
> 1. Will Florida let him coach Ole Miss in the playoffs?
> 2. Will Ole Miss let him coach Ole Miss in the playoffs?
Ole Miss has given Lane Kiffn a deadline of the Egg Bowl to decide whether he's taking another job, per my colleague Stewart Mandel.

Very intriguing.

Smart hire by Virginia Tech.
Six days after he was fired, James Franklin went on ESPN’s “College GameDay” and made it clear he wanted to coach again.

Now he's the first major hiring of the coaching carousel.
