Today, we remember the fourteen young women whose lives were stolen at Polytechnique Montréal 36 years ago.

Their names are a solemn reminder of the devastating toll of gender-based violence — and the responsibility that comes with our remembrance.

I actually no longer believe that people “don’t believe the science” about climate change—they just don’t want to accept the changes necessary. It’s not a problem fixed by better information, because it’s a moral problem of basic selfishness.
‘A war of the truth’: Europe’s heatwaves are failing to spur support for climate action
Voters may feel hotter summers are ‘too much’ but they appear to tolerate roll-back of policies to stop global heating

Grateful to have an audience with His Majesty King Charles III this afternoon.

Tomorrow, His Majesty will deliver the Speech from the Throne, nearly 70 years after Canada’s Sovereign first opened Parliament. It is an historic honour that matches the weight of our times.

Not unreasonably, the Canadians are seriously pissed!
Former Canadian PM Jean Chrétien, aged 91, to Trump:

"From one old guy to another, stop this nonsense. Canada will never join the US... My mother taught us good manners. She would have been ashamed of me if I had treated anyone the way the president has treated my PM and the President of Ukraine."

NEW: In a landslide (86%), the Canadian Liberal Party elects Mark Carney as its new leader, he will be the next Canadian PM.

But perhaps not for long. Elections incoming. That said Canadian Liberals were heading for a drubbing before Trump, who has revived their fortunes.

Dear America,

Like our Canadian cousins, we Brits strongly dislike your corrupt President.
In 2.5 weeks, Donald Trump has gone from a +38 net favourability rating among Reform UK voters to -8

All Britons
Favourable: 15% (-7 from 16-17 Feb)
Unfavourable: 80% (+7)

Reform UK voters
Favourable: 45% (-21)
Unfavourable: 53% (+25)

I’ve been consistently surprised that Canada’s Commonwealth status hasn’t been put to UK govt ministers more. The King (about whom Trump claims “great respect”) is head of state of Canada. Trump is saying he should be head of state of Canada. Is the UK govt neutral on that?
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau:

"Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada - their closest partner and ally, their closest friend. At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin - a lying murderous dictator. Make that makes sense."

Can we just be clear that if Canada were to join the United States, we wouldn’t be the 51st state—we would be the 51st to 63rd states, with 26 Senators and over 50 members of the House of Representatives—ensuring a near permanent Democratic majority in Congress.

This is also about Trudeau quitting but very interesting nonetheless.
Pro Trump leader of Canadian Conservatives, Pierre Poilievre, sees his poll lead collapse (down 18 points, from 25 to 7) as soon as Trump is inaugurated.

Trump had spent the transition talking about annexing Canada.

If not an outlier, early sign Trump may hurt his right wing allies abroad.
The liberals seem to be getting a Trump bounce
