Very amateur historian, particularly WW1. Wife, mum and community volunteer. OBS, DCA Proud member, trustee and ADC of the Great War Group. SACS 😉
I knit so I don’t kill people
'Bitter and pungent' Discuss 😉
Of course when we think of war poetry we think of Owen & Sassoon and their bitter & pungent poetry of WW1, but it is a much broader field than that. Here is "Some Volunteer Verse" from 1905 from The Inns of Court Rifles: lawyers with guns!

We are visiting the 1916 Somme battlefields from 5-8 June 2026 and telling the stories of the men involved in that tragedy. And who better to do experience it with than Peter Hart, Richard van Emden and Alex Churchill.

Found this cracking picture of Charles Townshend yesterday. I think all the braid must have gone to his head. Survivor of two sieges, which is more than can be said of most of the men under him.

We lived in a pub when I was growing up and when I was 3 (50 years ago!) we had someone in to draw the pub for a business card. I sat next to him and watched him draw every line. I was transfixed and it was a huge inspiration for me. I’ve dreamt about owning that drawing for years…

This is going to be brilliant! I’m in 😁
This January I’m launching an online course for people passionate about History. This isn’t a historian telling you things, it’s designed to turn you from a vociferous reader into someone who is starting to think like a historian themselves… Sign up details: introtohistory.eventbrite.com

@cwgc.bsky.social This needs a serious and proper response. It shouldn’t take one man to make something happen, but anger is building and a great many people are watching to see what happens next.

Not ICE. Border Patrol. They’re wearing Border Patrol uniforms with clear Border Patrol patches on them.

There are many videos of ICE officers doing outrageous stuff but a lot of the absolute worst videos are of Border Patrol, who are basically Bovino and Miller’s most aggressive tool right now.
ICE agents in Chicago violently detain a non verbal autistic man for being “non compliant”

He couldn’t “comply” because of his disability…they don’t care

This is not the first time they’ve gone after a disabled person

They target the most vulnerable because it’s an easy way to meet their quota

The world would be immensely better if more religions and their believers had even a tenth of the dedication the Sikhs do to doing good for people with no gatekeeping or expectations of anything other than "you are a fellow human in need and we can help you"
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.

Every far-right riot and protest that was tolerated, every racist dog whistle from public reps, every bit of hate and misinformation allowed to spread by social media companies, all led to this moment in Drogheda last night where someone felt emboldened enough to try to burn children alive.
