this site is gonna make me end up liking birds
In the scientific name, 'Lagopus' means "rabbit footed" for their feathered legs, and 'muta' refers to the guttural call.

They're found globally across the Arctic regions: popular game birds in Nunavut, Japan & Iceland.

The red crest is a compromise between "you can't see me" & "looking fabulous."
Rock Ptarmigan (Lagopus muta)
The rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) is a medium-sized gamebird in the grouse family. It is known simply as the ptarmigan in the UK and in Canada, where it is the official bird for the territory of Nunav...

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

Despite 15+ years of alpaca ownership, I’m only now just asking myself this critical question: how would an alpaca wear a T-shirt??

My highly scientific survey of asking on a Discord channel reveals that #3 is the funniest because it’s the most ridiculous.

The specific example he gives in here is so funny. Like, couldn't have picked a more self defeating example than photoshop, the piece of software where its users are extremely vocal about literally preferring the version from a decade ago lmao

The regular drumbeat for lawful access suggests government really is gearing up to move Bill C-2 again. The current bill features a warrantless access provision that would apply to every provider of a service in Canada. No one has anything remotely close.

The positive outcome of this story is that in frantically googling around trying to figure out what happened and how I could at least see the end of the episode, I discovered that the show is available at my local library and actually can be streamed thence via Hoopla 🎉

The other night I was idly watching the sixth episode in a new-to-me TV series on Netflix and about 10 minutes before the end of the episode the playback froze. After trying to restart it for a bit I exited and re-opened Netflix and the entire series had disappeared, apparently deleted from the app.

Yeah.

Labelers shift legal risk (as a function of their design) from platforms to the people running the labelers. And nearly all labelers will carry some legal risk no matter what.

But "this artwork which this user claims to have created is AI" is probably a fact claim that can harm a reputation.
This labeler may, from a legal risk perspective, be the worst idea I've seen in a long long time
This is not AI!!! Help me remove this claim? Everyone who's visited me at cons has seen me do live drawings!! Who flags this?? @aimod.social

Who even knows how long the label was there. I wasn't informed it was added until one of my followers told me about it! How many people saw this and got the wrong impression? What if conventions saw this? What if people I work with saw this? The hit on my reputation can't even be measured.

It's been removed. It should've never been there to begin with though and it seems like it can happen again any time. This makes bsky extremely unattractive to use. I don't want to have to fight to defend myself as a real artist. The system is good in spirit but the execution needs to be changed.

The US has no more jurisdiction to machine-gun Caribbean-bound Venezuelan speedboats in Venezuelan waters than they do to machine-gun Canadian lobster boats off the coast of Newfoundland. If you don't call the former a war crime then who's saying that the door isn't open for the latter.

I’m not saying “don’t get distracted” because if there is a consensus to call it a war crime then there could be some accountability in the near term. But let’s not forget the whole truth of what this really is.

The fact that a second strike like that in an armed conflict is definitely a war crime should not completely negate the fact that *there is no war* and ALL the strikes are cold-blooded murder. The whole chain of command are murderers.
