Roar did an interview with Al Lowe last year. It's a long read, about a lot of different subjects (not all related to gaming). Hopefully it'll be of interest to some of you. :)

Time to kick off a (year-long) commemoration of one of THE OLDEST video games known to history! 🎊

It’s “Bouncing Ball” — a candidate for the first-ever video game — celebrating its (75th) Diamond Anniversary this year!

Captain Blood is the highest of high concepts - you have to track down your own runaway clones, steal their vital fluids and restore your own health.

But to find them, you have to travel all over the universe and talk to odd aliens using a symbolic language!

Go to weird new worlds. Talk to unusual aliens. Capture your clones so you can consume their vital fluids.

Post a game you remember playing that nobody else remembers

"Jungledyret" for #DOS
A game based on the #Danish 1993 movie of the same name

The graphics are really detailed but the controls are super rigid

Game only sold around 20,000 units

Jeremy C. Smith loved physics, and the BBC Micro, and made some ingenious games that combined the two. His biggest success came with a pre-emptive port to the C64, of a game which refined Atari's Gravitar and added much funnier ways to fail. New post on Thrust:

Thrust – “Reverse gravity”
I have not had cause to mention the BBC Micro for a while. I think Football Manager was the most recent occasion, back at the start of 1985. Even as the Amstrad CPC thoroughly took over as the UK’s…

This game is really good. And it's surprisingly relevant, still. I interviewed the author a bunch of years ago:

The game itself does what it's supposed to, though the minigames all play the same so it gets repetitive. A neat curio, if nothing else. 3/3

In 1990, Damocles (Mercenary 2) on the Amiga featured a full galaxy with 9 planets & 19 moons for players to explore. In 1995, Psygnosis was going to release an enhanced PC port which never happened. The PC port looked almost complete. Another in the weird choices made by Psygnosis in the 90s

This was a pretty cool find. A decent platformer game in the same vein as Manic Miner etc on the Sharp MZ-80K. Not that I'm particularly good at it yet but this has some really nice animations using the Sharpscii graphics.

The good old Amiga1200 with a Commodore 1084 monitor and a GoDrive to easily load games from a USB drive. This set up helped us a lot when testing Roguecraft during development of the game.

Any others having experiences or memories with this set-up?

First modern game played this year: Baba is You. I played it for about 5 hours when it was new, got stuck and gave up. Randomly saw it had been updated with new content, and decided to have a go. And for some reason it really clicked me this time, and I'm loving it.

First game played this year: Zeewolf on the Amiga.Took a while to get the hang of the controls again (you really need to use the mouse), but I'm mostly doing okay now. The game is really quite playable, obviously it would have been great to see more of the level but it somehow works.
