America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again

100%. If he didnt hear his cover if Hurt or Reznor’s saying “thats not my song anymore”, he should just be quiet about music.

Reznor is a bfd and to defer in that way to Cash, opened up a whole new audience.

Disagree. You could have gotten into him via American IV, (released in 2002) specifically Hurt, gone back through his library, and know of his greatness.

Both he and the Beastie Boys have songs about Shadrach, Mesach & Abednego.

My girls are teens yet they know the greatness of the man in black

It's easy to BS thru 11th grade science, but when you start talking conservative (physics) forces, field lines, and Gauss's law for gravity, or how long it actually takes light to travel through the universe, it really becomes nonsense

Part of this is because people dont get past 11th grade science
Gauss's law for gravity. I am 30 years since doing these integrals, but the flux of a gravitational field over any closed surface is proportional to the mass enclosed.

Where do they think it is? Do they think the universe is ~14B years old and just Earth was formed 6,000 years ago?

What are the astronomical implications of Andromeda being roughly 1/500th as far away as modern science shows?

This is like my asking a flat-Earther to draw gravitational field lines
jimc5.bsky.social
My younger daughter has some friends whose families are young-Earth creationists. Earth is 6,000 years old.

#ShowerThought -- where do they think the Andromeda galaxy is? Astronomy says 2.5 million light years away. If the universe is 6,000 years old, how can we see that?

"Wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus" might be the most astounding seven words any NYC mayoral candidate has ever spoken.
colindickey.com
[Me, a poor, on the subway, glowering jealously at all those fat cat, fancy pants rich people on the public bus]
Andrew Cuomo tweet:

@ZohranKMamdani's "plan" provides no relief for working families who take the subway, and unnecessary benefits to wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus and can afford the fare.

I focus on working families, while @ZohranKMamdani the mansion boy focuses on helping the rich.

For some reason, though, people seem to have difficulty bringing that same analytical distance to politics. To take one very obvious recent example: all the sudden, everyone was talking about trans girls in high school sports. I'd venture to guess that 99% of the people involved ...

All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

Add in Gay marriage, trans rights, abortion rights. But the underlying thought process has been consistent and I’ve tried to never post anything online I wouldn’t say IRL.

The issues that animated me as a voter in 2000 were making college affordable, universal health insurance, and reducing the power and influence of corporations. 8 years later, about the same, but add in immigration reform. Since then? Strengthening democracy and restoring science.

Is the Antifa in the room with us right now?
ryanmarino.bsky.social
These freaks keep getting on TV talking about opposing antifa and how they believe antifa wants to destroy them, and not a single person in mainstream media has asked or commented on what is the opposite of antifascism and who is threatened by antifascists
