Europeans didn't learn about electric eels until after they learned about electricity. There are electric catfish in the Nile, and they were called thunder fish.

Native S. American peoples called electric eels something that translates to: the fish that takes away movement.

In this new study that emerged from a great collaboration led by @morganefrapin.bsky.social and Ehsan Pashay Ahi, we dig into the molecular mechanisms of density-dependent effects in Atlantic salmon, specifically in their hypothalamus (a key site for endocrine regulation).

Actually I do have a question if you have a sec.

Without exception the most transphobic group of scientists I’ve run into online are evolutionary biologists. Every single one of them has expressed the same opinion: transness cannot be anything other than social contagion. Why?
