BREAKING: Federal prosecutors said today they went to a grand jury twice to indict a D.C. woman for assaulting an FBI agent during an arrest by ICE — and were twice rejected.

Notably, she faces the same charge as the District's alleged sandwich thrower.

Anyone around here had a cat that acts like a dog? My new cat, 7 yrs old and with me for 3 mos., likes to nip and run, hoping to be chased, and literally slipped out of the leash today on inaugural attempt outside. He's Mel Gibson in "Braveheart," but as a cat. Open to ideas to wear him out/quiet.

Honestly, in the ranks of people you would never expect to see in Congress, this would likely barely crack the Top 10 now.

Because, sigh, if you give a reporter enough free time and Internet access, he will of course set up a Substack. Today, a look at the steep hill House GOP finds itself climbing historically and 3 weird economic policies Trump could propose.

It's been a long, long time since the GOP carried a full-government spending bill on its own.

Alan Greenspan used to say recoveries don't die of old age, they die from imbalances. Two of the longest stretches of economic growth, post-tech crash in '01 to Great Financial Crisis starting in '07 and post-GFC to covid, have happened in the last 25 years.

Has to be absolutely insane working at Reason because half the staff are like "imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever ☹️" and the other half are like "imagine a boot stamping on a human face — forever 😍"
Is DOGE being sabotage by "malicious compliance" - or their own terrible choices?
Robby knows less about government than Elon Musk, and refuses to invest any effort into finding out - don't make him do a journalism! - so he is going to go with his gut here.

Normally when you have a government shutdown it's because there's a funding lapse. Tonight we have a government shutting down lots of itself by fiat. This is something new.

Last year, CBO said immigration would account for ALL new population growth in 2040. Last week, they revised that to 2033. Why? Because women, particularly U.S.-born ones, are delaying childbirth, making a new supply of citizens via migration more important.

The first thing a sentient evil AI would do is see if it could convince humans to befoul their own environment just to give the AI the resources it says it needs.
“In order to shoot off one email per week for a year, ChatGPT would use up 27 liters of water, or about one-and-a-half jugs… that means if one in 10 U.S. residents—16 million people—asked ChatGPT to write an email a week, it’d cost more than 435 million liters of water.”
AI doesn’t just require tons of electric power. It also guzzles enormous sums of water.

One factor that may play into today's Johnson vote: members' "eh, eff it" proclivities. When the outcome is considered fait accompli, often would-be rebels, instead of holding up everyone and annoying them, just decide to go ahead and give in, claiming they made their point anyway.
