It’s so hard to have a reasonable conversation about AI, because people refuse to see the massive upsides of job elimination, higher electrical bills, hard drive shortages, poisoning black people in Memphis, and an economy where a handful of pedos with bad hair control your life

It's definitely true that if some of us don't have rights, none of us do. But also, immigrants should have rights even if there was a way to guarantee the rest of us would be fine.
The thing I don't like about the "first they came for the ____ " thing is: the problem isn't that you'll be next. The problem is that they came for ____ in the first place. Like, if you're saying it won't just be immigrants, are you implying it would be fine if they stopped there? I hope not!

This also does not look appetizing at all. That they chose this picture to include in this article is wild.

Time is a flat squircle
In 1854, after watching the federal government deploy 2000 federal troops and spend $40,000 sending Anthony Burns back into slavery, Boston's Amos Adams Lawrence said “we went to bed one night old-fashioned, conservative, Compromise Union Whigs and waked up stark mad Abolitionists.”
Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭. @maddow.bsky.social

I am once again asking the universe to relent
"They had Marimar Martinez on a dangerous activists list before they shot her" and "NIH is out of the business of pandemic preparation" and "they taunted the hungry children at Dilley with Thanksgiving food for the jailers" and "a lot of those empty PDFs are abuse videos" was all today

I'm pretty proud of this poem I made out of the euphemisms that companies used to describe the ICE occupation in corporate communications. Also read the whole story: racketmn.com/corporate-co...
