Historians will look at how far we've fallen, and come to the conclusion that it all began with the rise of Reality TV in the 1990s. Giving huge platforms to people with no real talent or expertise created a unique era – one that soon gave birth to a political movement based on idiocy and ignorance.

I think it’s weird that folks on the left are screaming “but trump gave him asylum, so it’s his fault,” with regard to the shooter. Of course he should have given him asylum. He worked for and with the CIA in Afghanistan. This story will have layers. Hope we have the attention span for it.

The Epstein story gets a something that is tearing at the heart of the electorate: elite impunity. The idea that wealthy and powerful people can do terrible things *at scale* and face no consequences for them. Whatever political party actually stops it could rule the country for a generation.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Lots going on but from outside it seems that at least part of the calculus was that flight disruption for middle class and up travelers matters more than life disruption for untold numbers who’ll be deprived of health care.
