For the 1st time since the 90s Labour is freezing national rail fares. That’ll mean savings for people across Durham & the wider country. Public transport costs are a big part of cost of living expenditure for many people, so I’m encouraged the govt is taking this step to ease the pressure.

An incredible take from a senior journalist.
That events which led to over 20k deaths don’t get greater coverage is *wrong* by any definition and the news cycle is the responsibility of the profession.
It’s a sign of how insane the news cycle is these days that this historic failure of government policy got just one day of news coverage this week.

Not saying that’s right or wrong, but it’s astonishing how quickly the agenda moves on these days.
BREAKING: UK’s response to Covid was “too little too late”. Acting faster could have saved 23,000 lives in England according to the public inquiry.

Boris Johnson presided over a “toxic, sexist, chaotic culture” in No10, where rule-breaking seriously undermined public confidence.

The agenda moves quickly, Paul, because you are all on X and allow a foreign owned media organisation with an agenda against this country to set that agenda. That's on you and your bosses.

A good move by Govt and very welcome news for commuters and travellers in UK👇🏼

Rail fares to be frozen in England next year for the first time in 30 years.. loathe them or like them they’re doing more positive things for UK than Tories did in 14 years

Mason & Kuenssberg will be utterly distraught😁
Rail fares to be frozen in England next year
Regulated fares, which include season tickets and off-peak returns, will not see annual price rises for the first time in 30 years, the government announces.

Is *decapitation* the best option here? Maybe ‘departure’ ‘sacking’ or even the awful ‘ouster’ would suffice. Or does the choice indicate sympathy with the recently-resigned?
Two veteran US Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists watched the BBC Panorama that led to the decapitation of its two leading executives. Their verdicts may surprise you …. www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/media/...
Was the BBC’s Trump edit actually OK?

As with the covid disaster. The UK has a political system so befuddled that none of the peerages, titles, gongs and honours awarded to these criminals will be rescinded and restitution will never come.
It is indisputable that Brexit has been an economic disaster, and notable that none of its political architects have paid any price.
Brexit has caused almost twice as much damage to the UK economy than estimated by official forecasts, according to new paper from a group of experts including a senior Bank of England economist

Guys be reasonable. You can’t go round calling people racist just because they’re doing Nazi stuff. That will only make them more racist. I am very sensible and nuanced. Can I have a column in the Guardian please seriously I’ll say anything

Would have loved to witness the discussion that led to the prompts. “They have lamps don’t they? Get it to put a lamp in one of the panels…”

Alienating you target audience from the off is peak YP.
Okay, I can't let this one go. I live in Ireland, not the UK, but the use of this image by a supposedly socialist party is so stupid and offensive, I'm going to get stuck in.

Let me explain to you why any experienced illustrator/designer could have stopped you making so many miserable mistakes. 1/

The weekly polls promoting a 4-5 seat party, the live coverage of ever utterance of said party across the media …and the same media’s off shoot podcasts …and relentless negative speculation, served up as ‘news’ for 16 months solid. No respect for the folk who voted for Labour under Keir Starmer

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

Is it absolutely necessary to conduct a poll on whatever frothy nonsense these creeps utter to attract attention?
With Maurice Glasman and Dominic Lawson calling for the return of the stocks, we find most Britons opposed - although Reform voters are divided

All Britons: 21% support / 72% oppose

Lib Dem: 12% / 85%
Labour: 12% / 83%
Green: 13% / 82%
Con: 28% / 64%
Reform: 43% / 48%

BBC News bulletins leading on the story of an Algerian man being mistakenly released by the prison service.

Funnily enough I don't remember these cases ever leading the bulletins when an average of ten prisoners were mistakenly released a month in the final year of the last Government

Let's not humour those advocating deportation of UK residents with reasons why their plans would not work.

Keep it simple, this is not the action of a civilised country.

If needed, this will mean complete chaos and destruction of international reputation.
