Uses of force by Chicago police -- the primary reason CPD is under a federal consent decree -- jumped sharply from 2022 to 2024. Supt. Snelling acknowledged a rise in reports of cops pointing guns at people, a practice CPD and the city badly did not want to track as part of the court order.

The independent monitor overseeing the city’s consent decree pointed to CPD data showing a nearly 44% increase from 2022 to 2024.

I got a letter in the mail saying my whole family’s names, DOBs and SSNs may have been accessed in a breach by a third party company used by my health insurer. So we’re eligible for free credit monitoring. But to get it… we need to provide our names, DOBs and SSNs to another third party.

This is what we’re losing with @volumesbooks.bsky.social closing. The kind of place that cares enough about its community to host a sleepover for neighborhood kids’ stuffed animals just for fun.
Timeline cleanse: Our neighborhood indie bookstore, @volumesbooks.bsky.social, had a “stuffy sleepover” tonight, complete with arts & crafts, board games, and hide and seek. They sent photo updates and it’s as cute as you’d think it would be. (My kid’s “stuffy” is the too-realistic-its-creepy doll.)
