"We are on the brink of a new era, if only ..." (Beiderbecke Trilogy)

Way back in the day, Danny Baker described 'the internet' (this was the early-mid 90s) as, "being like going through the phone book asking each number if they like Batman".

Anyway, who here likes *waves arms* ... stuff?
There's something a bit incongruous about the broadcast being all about the White Ribbon campaign and then virtually everyone involved thinking it's fine that some players' reactions to frustration are to start hitting each other.

Indeed, and you also get the large amounts of money they bring into the country to spend on rent and other living expenses, boosting the local economy around each institution.
If the government wants to raise money from international students, wouldn't it be better to have more of them rather than to raise the fees they pay? That way you get both the existing fees you charge them and you increase the income of universities and kill two birds with one stone.

We should be encouraging foreign students to come here and spend their money in our university towns and cities, not penalising them for doing it.

"Wasn't quite ready" implies it just needs more work, whereas I don't think it's going to get meaningfully better than it is. It's hamstrung by its inability to comprehend its own output, and that's not a couple of updates away, that's a whole new technology.

I still can't hear the M25 mentioned without thinking of Harry Enfield's character repeatedly saying "You don't wanna go on the M25" and the other bloke saying "I didn't go on the M25!"

I haven't checked but they better have made this same joke about England today
The shortest day of the year in Iceland is 4 hours and 7 minutes of daylight on 21st December. That's still enough time for a whole T20 match or two innings of the West Indies batting in Tests.

Living in the 21st century by streaming the derby between 'my' Bohemians 1905 and 'those' Slavia Prague via a betting site.

I give it 15 minutes until the eToro sponsored dweebs are too far ahead.

I have switched on international rugby union and it appears to just be three officials watching a big TV whilst some Welsh people cheer.

That’s been the past ten minutes.

I keep thinking about the Raymond Williams line: "To be truly radical is to make hope possible rather than despair convincing".

Hope is not easy. Despair seems obvious. But every howl of despair manifests as further malignance. Compliance with fascism is despair metastasising.

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.
