My naive wish is that even one Canadian journalist, one politician, one security analyst, would address the implications of Canada choosing military integration with an authoritarian power that no longer respects the rule of law or international law.
Looks like that’s not going to happen today.

this is an explicitely nazi administration and anyone who still supports them should be viewed as such

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

Read this and then ask yourself why the bulk of our taxes go toward the police and not healthcare or schools. Let’s get smarter with how we use our limited funds.

David Graeber on the police.

From an interview he gave a few years ago with the Scottish publication called Bella Caledonia. davidgraeber.org/interviews/t...
"The police don’t actually end up spending their time
fighting violent criminals. Instead, they enforce
administrative regulations and endless rules. So
rather than protecting us against violence, police
actually bring the threat of violence into situations
where it would have never occurred otherwise.
Most incidents of violence —domestic violence,
a drunken brawl, or gang fights— the police don’t
get involved. On the other hand, try driving down
the street with no license plates: how long will it
be before you are surrounded by people with weapons."

International audiences discovering Canadian Liberals for the first time:

Why are Canadians on the comments trying to pretend Carney isn't missing his ass in front of the whole world?

All you're doing is making excuses and lying to yourselves. This is embarrassing from a man who ran on the platform of fighting back against the US and fascism.

Pathetic.

"You are a transformative president" -- I regret to inform you that Mark Carney is kissing Trump's ass
jpmccullagh.bsky.social
Trump famously backs down to strong men but this subservient attitude does not help Canadians. There’s all sorts of excuses to be made but Carney laughed at Trump’s jokes about violating international law and murdering people and he sat idly listening to transphobic remarks. That’s not leadership.
jpmccullagh.bsky.social
That’s been the whole political mantra for generations. “The alternative would be worse”. I want a leader who has some moral clarity and won’t just throw people under the bus.

This display of grovelling subservience defines Mark Carney, both as a politician and as a man

So why even meet with him then? What is the point of this trip? Especially if you’re just going to sit by and let Trump spout his nonsense. He needs to show some moral character.
jpmccullagh.bsky.social
He ran a whole election saying “Elbows Up” and saying he’s the one to take on Trump. So stand up for what is right. Otherwise, it’s implied agreement.
jpmccullagh.bsky.social
Is it diplomacy or complicity? For heavens sake man, show some moral backbone and call this nonsense out. #cdnpoli

Trump: "If we didn't win this election. If we had these people that were running that were ruining our country, destroying our country with their open borders and men playing in women's sports and transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place ... I'm not sure we'd even have a country."
jpmccullagh.bsky.social
I know there’s supposed reasons but it’s pretty frustrating to see our PM laugh along about blowing up boats and murdering fishermen.

I trust PM Carney clarified to Trump that there are 10s of thousands of Canadian commercial fishermen generating billions of dollars in economic activity. #cdnpoli

Trump: "We call them the water drugs. The drugs that come in through water. They're not coming. There are no boats anymore. Frankly, there are no fishing boats. There are no boats out there period, if you want to know the truth. Does anybody go fishing anymore?"
